When I was your son's age (actually the day I turned 13) I lost one of my testes as well. It can be a bit of a challenge to self-confidence and as some of the other posters have found, can be a bit of a deterrent to developing personal relationships. I ended up getting a prosthetic on the advice of my doctor a few years later, and it's something that you/he shouldn't rule out in the future. It's not the same as having the other one in-tact, but it's one pretty decent solution to the aesthetics issue. The psychological thing is what may be of concern, speaking from experience, it kinda leaves one with feelings of inadequacy or apprehension especially when in one's late-teens when there's a lot of pressure. Some girls I've found are pretty alright about it, they don't see it as being a big deal. Others can over-react to it or react against it, kinda like the first poster did. It doesn't help either and ends up being rather dejecting. I wish you and your family the best. It can be tough at first, but it will get better.

Hi, im 17 years old and have been living with one testicle my whole life. I play rugby/hockey/basketball and it seems as though I am not effected by it at all. So to all the parents who think that their sons will lose their masculinity because of this common case, you're wrong. :-D

bye!

I have an undescended testicle and the women I have dated including my wife think I have an amazing sex drive. You are not alone and are not any less of a man!

I only have 1 testicle and I hate it. Someone at my school gets dissed for it heaps because someone else also has this so that makes me NEVER want to let out my secret. I desperately want to get another one AND FAST.

I have always had one testicle. I am a 50 year old father of 3. The oldest is a Marine over in Iraq, and my other two are in college working toward thier teaching degress. Back in 1985 I had my right undesended testicle removed during a routine hernia operation. It was dead, and the threat of cancer had to be addressed. Having one testicle did not affect my sex life at all, other posters mentioned that partners usually don't even notice the condition. I am a Nudist, and I can tell you first hand that having one testicle did not even factor in to my decision to try naturalism with my wife. Most folks don't know or dont care, It was just never a factor with me. I think that if you are deeply affected by this condition, a silicon insert may be worth looking into. But whatever you do, know that this condition will only be life altering if you let it be.

MY FRIEND HAS ONE BALL CAN WE HAVE CHILDREN

This is actually really helpful, i also have one testicle and started to worry about it around the time that I was turning 17. However, if what is being posted that is doesn't afftect your chance as any other man to have children than Im fine, that was my major concern, since we all know that most of us have a dream that when we marry we wish to have 2 or 3 kids, well I do, but by reading that it doesn't affect my chances of being a father, than I can live happily.

My husband was born with one testicle, and I have absolutely no problem with that. He is just as much a man with one as he would be with two.

To the person who thinks her boyfriend is "weird" for having "only one": How would you feel if YOU didn't have something, such as a second breast, and your boyfriend thought YOU were a freak and found YOU to be less attractive for "having only one"?? I realize a breast and a testicle are two very different things; but, both are physically obvious. I feel sorry for your boyfriend--not because he has "only one testicle," but because he has such an insensitive girlfriend.

Thank you all so very much for your posts. I actually started crying tears of joy reading most of your posts. I am 27 years old and I have always had one testicle. I have always been extremely self-conscious about it and I think you are all so amazing for sharing your stories. I am mainly posting to pass along that I recently had my annual physical and my doctor told me to be particularly conscious about testicular cancer and to conduct regular self-examinations. Once again, thanks.

I am 17 years old and I only have one testicle. I must agree, for the first few relationships of my life it was difficult...but now I realized this...the fact I only have one testicle has no bearing on how i live. It's really not that big of a deal...except for when girls like the one who started this post come along...I just want those people to go jump off a cliff.

Hi
Just to reassure every young person out there....
I was born with 1 testicle, not sure if it was undescended or not, but I had an operation when I was about 7. I guess to check if it was there inside. Anyway I was very self conscious about this all through school, but actually no-one ever actually knew. It has not affected me in any way.
I get hard, have sex, ejaculate, play sport, joined the reserve armed forces, just like anyone else. I am happily married and now have three fantastic kids.
When trying to start a family, my biggest disappointment was that as soon as we stopped using birth control my wife immediately fell pregnant! Super sperm I guess! Some of my colleagues seem to have had to try for years to get their wife pregnant, and part of me wishes we could have had such a long period of 'trying' before the morning sickness kicked in.
Anyway, to all you young people, it really is no big deal. I wouldn't recommend broadcasting the fact that you only have one testicle as you will just end up having embarrassing discussions. But don't worry about it.
