Hi all! I am on month 5 of microgestin fe 1/20, and am debating about whether or not to come off the pill. I am in a long- term relationship, nd I know my partner doesn't like condoms. However, this month I have had an extreme loss of sex drive, and I am more prone to crying. Prior to bc, I rarely cried, it took a lot to make me cry, and now I cry at little things! I have been having severe cramps(. Second week into pack) and lost 3 lbs because of the cramps. I have unusual bruising and slight hair loss as well. This was my first bcp ever, and I am afraid to switch to another. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I would suggest that you dont go on the pill again if its causing you so many problems but don't worry as their are a lot of other forms of contraception out there
The progesterone only pill (pop) is normally ideal for women who cant take the pill due to the effects of the oestrogen it contains (that's the pill your taking now) it's taken every day at the same time with no breaks between. But if you prefer non hormonal based form of contraception you have the choice of the UID (the coil) which is inserted by a nurse and can be removed at any time. it works by preventing the sperm from reaching the egg and can last up to 10yrs also the vaginal ring is inserted & replaced yourself but its a bit more tricky as it only last 21days with a 7day break between.
Pick up a leaflet from a family planning clinic as there are quite a few that i have not mentioned like the ISU & the implant

I totally agree with misskofi. When I was on the pill I had side effects too, not nearly as bad as yours but still enought to put me off, had my implant put in 4 months ago, not only have I not had a period, but I've not had any side effects either and it's much more effective than the pill as it is not effected by illness or other meds.

Thanks to both of you for your replies. I've been debating about this in my head, my bf is pretty stressed out about other things, so I have to figure this out on my own. My period is due soon, so I'll call my dr. tomorrow ask about switching.

So my GYN never returned my message..can one stop the pill at anytime during the cycle? I have one more week of hormones, but I can't take feeling like this anymore. Will stopping before the end of the cycle mess up my period? I see my GYN next month, so I am just going to stop and go back to condoms and talk to her when I see her.

Thank you all for your input!! My GYN wasn't helpful, but my boyfriend and I talked about birth control. Today is my first day not taking the pill, and I notice a huge difference! Haven't felt like crying yet, and I have more energy. Am going to use non-hormonal methods until my body stabilizes and we'll make a change if needed in the future.

I stopped the pill on June 20, and had heavy bleeding until June 24. Is that considered a period? My pill period would've come yesterday. When should I expect a normal period to come?
