Can I take the pill?

When I was younger I suffered a severe hemiplegic migraine, in which I collapsed and suffered loss of movement from my limbs as well as speech impediment. When visiting the doctor to enquire about what had happened she told me I had hemiplegia which is obviously very common. But she also told me that as a result I would not be able to take the contraceptive pill or smoke, both of which I understand act as a coagulant which, with the narrowing of blood vessels that occurrs with hemiplegia would increase my chance of a hemorage. At the time neither of these thing affected me. I was only 14 and wasnt a tearaway child.
However now I am 18 and despite not having any desire to smoke, I could really do with going on the pill. I am in a steady relationship in which I recently started having regular sex. However, condoms have always caused problems with us making my boyfriend lose his erection almost evey time we try to use them, despite using types such as featherlight and we find it very hard to retrieve it! I was a bit concerned about pregnancy as we have been using the withdraw method and I know that that isnt foolproof. I really dont fancy any of the other contraception types as I am scared of needles and really dont feel comfortable with getting an implant. Pills I feel would be the best option, as also then I have the option to postpone periods when they are inconvenient, as I travel frequently often to exotic and sometimes unhygenic countries.
I am still concerned about whether or not this is an option for me. I have not had the full effects of the hemiplegia since that first time and only get migraines occasionally, although when I do I always get the flashing lines and numbness in my fingers, nose and upper lip. Perhaps because they are so irregular Id be ok with the pill? please help. sorry bout the essay!! lol
