My son had a hemorrhoidectomy 10 days ago -- he's 32 yrs old -- anyway he popped his stitches about 3 days ago -- went to  ER and doc said to wait until he sees his surgeon Monday --- no sign  of infection -- no bleeding -- and now no pain just wondering if any of u popped all ur stitches and what was done about it ?? Thanks for ur help --

I find it unsual that the stitches wouldn't have dissolved before than.  If the ER doctor is ok with his situation, then his surgeon will probably leave it alone as well.  Healing would have started and if there is no infection, he will be ok.  If he has no pain, great!  Usually people that have had a hemorrhoidectomy suffer from pain, especially upon defaction for about a month after the surgery.  I would say it sounds like he is doing great with his post-surgery healing.  Are there any others that have had good or bad experiences with a hemorrhoidectomy?  Anybody have stitches come undone?

I am on day 7 and was horrified to find that my stitches had come "undone" and left me with about a half inch around open wound. I called my doctor (after hours) in panic mode. Doctor on call was not concerned. He told me that some surgeons choose not to use any stitching at all and leave all wounds open. I have my first post op follow up tomorrow, so I'll see what my doctor says. I have a feeling it is normal and will be left alone. The stitches are meant to be dissolvable (coming out usually between 7-14 days). I had it in my head that the wounds would be much more closed and healed before the stitches dissolved. I also had no more pain, no extra bleeding, and I'm pretty sure I am infection free. Doctor in the phone said not to do anything differently. Keep doing baths and keep it as dry and clean as possible otherwise. Hope this helps. Doctors do not prepare you for the recovery and what to expect with this surgery!

I had this done last Wednesday so I'm 5 days after but I seem to be getting more horrible pain, it seems that a stitch came off and it seems that there is a hole beside your own hole and it seems everytime I have a bowel moment I keep wiping and wiping like it will never end so I soak in the bath tub, my doctor told me to go in two weeks but do I wait? I'm afraid of infection, I really appreciate your response Sylvia

Agreed. I had suregery December 17, 2017. I had horrible pain, nearly to the point if pain. I called the docs; however, being the holidays docs are scarce). I finalliy got to see the doctor on the 29th, I learned I had a popped stitch. The source of the extra paun was the suture wrapped around ny insides. He cut the suture abd Im muvh more comfortable. There should be a warning. I'll think twice before having "holiday surgery" again.

This is an old post but also just wanted to confirm your statement in saying that doctor do not prepare you for the recovery after this operation! At all, whatsoever, was I ever prepared for this.

Hi Sylvia
I am on day 10 post hemorroidectomy (and fissurectomy). I am having a similar issue as yours (hole beside the hole type thing). Could you tell me what happened in the end for you? Did it go back to normal?
Thanks.

I had hemorrhoid surgery this past Tuesday so far no pain and no infection. I didn't even have to take pain meds. I don't remember if I have stitches are not.I popped out my packing the next day. I'm having lot of gas which they say is a good sign means bowel are returning to normal..I do hope I never have to do it again.

Don’t believe that is possible, no pain meds then walking 5 miles just days later. Maybe you were tricked and you really never had the surgery. They put you under and woke you up and said your all done making you think they did something.

Agreed!! I can't see this being true either. I'm 6 days post op hemorrhoidectomy, fissurectomy with botox and I'm still waddling around taking it really easy. I also found my stitches on a wipe yesterday one long one with the knot at the end and just a knot of another one. It honestly feels better since it came aloose (for now I'm not sure about how it will be after my next bm). I'm hoping that I'm healing well as I find that I can't sit to poop( I have to squat) when I stay on top of my pain meds the pain is manageable the thing that gets me are the spasms back there with the ends of the stitches poking the opposite area that hurts, it even wakes me up out of my sleep. I was prescribed oxycodone and ibuprofen but am not taking the oxycodone anymore (I took it the first day and the 3rd day only) because I dont want to get constipated and I hate how it makes me feel however it does help tons with the pain. Some tips, stay ahead of the pain, SOAK SOAK SOAK and when you dont soak Shower. Don't rush yourself to heal take it easy, drink plenty water, take the stool softeners, eat light meals or smoothies, plenty of veggies and gradually add the fiber back ( after the surgery nobody wants to take frequent or multiple bm's) be careful and gentle with wipping use wet soft toilet paper and or wipes and as much heat as you can stand without burning yourself. I find that when I sit to pass my stool it's way more painful and I feel alot more pressure and burning vs when I squat over the toilet. Try not to fool around back as to much wipping causes discomfort and irritation, to soak immediately after bm's and be super gentle, get portable bidet, remember everyone heals at different speeds and everyone's bodies are different try not to get caught up in the negative horrible things you hear and read it is definitely not good psychologically or for the healing process. I’m in so much pain ! I had my partial thrombosed hemmroidectomy last Saturday & stayed in the hospital one night and the surgeon gave me a nerve block and then sent me hone the next day. But I’ve been eating the Metamucil fiber thins, and taking stool softeners and milk of magnesia. This is by far the worst experience I’ve ever had in my entire life! I also had two cervical spine surgeries in the last three years & this tops both of them. The pain wakes me up out of a sound sleep & I find myself making all sorts of weird moaning sounds because of the level of pain I’m in. The muscle spasms are like someone is slowly sewing my anus back on with a really sharp needle every time I have a bm. I’m not even joking! I have a high pain tolerance but this is horrific!!! The spasms shoot up inside my body about 6-10 inches and won’t stop for quite a while. I’ve been eating berries, whole grain toast, black beans, brown rice, salads & drinking prune juice & water. Also peppermint tea & chloraphyll drops help with gas & digestion !! I have been taking turmeric with bioperine as well to help with inflammation. I have a heating pad and alternate with hotdogs that I cut lengthwise and put them in individual ziplocks and freeze them so I can throw them away after ! But then they are skinny enough to fit in the crack!! I know it sounds funny, but when your anus feels like it’s being blow torched like creme brûlée, u will do anything to get comfortable!!!

Yes, I’m a female, 57 years old. Had my surgery on the 15th, noticed popped stitches on the 22nd, called nurse, she said they wouldn’t fix it, to just let it heal. 2 days after that I noticed what reminds me a lot of my old hemorrhoid, looks like the same spot too. I became very depressed. I called the nurse again (sobbing this time, she never even returned my call). After all that tremendous pain and fallowing the doctors orders, it looks worse now than pre surgery.
