Had two shots in lower back On march 21.

I have not had a period in 3 1/2 yrs.  Same as above, started bleeding yesterday.

there is ovarian cancer in the family history, I started to freak.

I called my doctor who did the shots and he was very helpful saying that the steroid shots can be the factor and to follow up with the GYOB just to double check.

I have an appt. on tuesday for a endo biopsy.

Wish I would have found this site sooner, I could have avoided a lot of undo stress.

Good luck to all

and YES, they really should warn post-meno women of this side effect.

I agree, Debbie, and you're lucky your doc at least acknowledged there could be a relationship. Mine flatly denied a connection and told me to stop going to the web for medical advice! Just imagine the untold thousands of women this happens to! But glad that we've all found each other. hat a wonderful service this website is.

I have been sat here scouring the internet for answers to my spotting , I too am post menapausal , Last year i had a scare and had to have biopsy and ultra sounds (Sept) and everything was benign . I had an Arthoroscopy 6 days ago and had epidural ,, then two days ago started to spot , worried to death i went to the G.P. she said highly unlikely its connected and is refering me back to the hospital to have it all done again .I also am glad to find all these comments as ive been sat in pain from my op and also stressed out and depressed at wondering what the matter is .

All these women, all this worry, could have been avoided if we were told the side effects.

Update to my post. Follow up tests showed I have endometrial cancer. Had complete hysterectomy 5 days ago. Doctor said that I would have bled eventually in 2,3,or 6 months. However my cancer may have been more advanced by thend. I am convinced the cortisone shot caused my bleeding, but it may have saved my life because I further checked it out with my ob/gyn. I urge anyone with bleeding after cortizone shot to fully check it out especially if you are post menopausal.,

I have been menopausal for 16 years and started bleeding 2 weeks after a steroid injection to my tailbone after an injury.   I called my orthopedic dr. three days after the injection and he said steroids can do weird things in the body.  At least he was saying it was possible!   Then, after a week more of cramps and the bleeding, I saw my gynecologist.  She confirmed that she has seen women in my situation over the years in her practice and was quite certain the injection was the cause.

Still, not feeling totally confident, I was very happy to see I am not alone.   I, too, feel like we should be warned about this before deciding about the injection.  I have had terrible cramps for 2 weeks now and I wish I knew when I would start feeling better.

I am a 70 year old woman and post menopausal for 30 years.  Last month I had a cortisone shot in my shoulder. Two weeks later I began bright red vaginal bleeding which continued lightly for 10 days.  I was sent to a gynecologist who has ordered an ultrasound.  No one is suggesting a cortisone relationship.  I am seriously thinking there is a relationship!  I am sure the doctors won't listen to my personal diagnosis of a cortisone relationship.  It is scary, as I had a mastectomy for breast cancer at age 36.

Hi ,

I Went to the Womens Hospital this afternoon , I went with photocopies of all these post about Post Menapausal bleeding , the nurse had never heard of it . I gave her the photocopies and she is going to have a good look at them .

I had my vaginal scan and because  if was over 4 i then had to go and have the awful endoscopy and a biopsy , the nurse who did the procedure said everything looked ok but just to be on the safe sound to go through with it there and then . Im happy to have gone through with it now but the stress that its been causing over the last three weeks is terrible . I have to wait for two weeks for the results of the biopsy so fingers crossed everything will be fine . I do think there is a relationship to the injection i had but its not widely recognised its a shame . Some ladies have this done under General Anaethetic but at my well known womens hospital they just do it . Thank God we can give others some encouragement when they also read we have all had the same thing happen ..:O

I have had 3 epidural steroid shots for a lumbar herniated disc in the last 6 weeks. A weeks after the last shot I started spotting.  I have been post menapausal for 8 years.  Thanks for relieving my fears.  Did anyone have swelling in their neck and face from the shots.?  Just wonder when it will go away. I am king Steroid shots are very bad for the body.

Yes, I also had the swelling of the face - I'd thought you needed a longer course of cortisone for this to happen.

Ive asked this question before , does any of you ladies know how we can pursue our findings further? I think its extremeley important for the benefit of other Ladies in our position , that have to go through all the stress and uncertainty, worry etc.,

When i have discussed it with other health people they look at me as if im going a bit daft . But it really does need to be tackled even if it went into a Womens well known magazine so at least Ladies are not sat at home wondering what on earth is happening to them like ive been doing . Im awaiting the results of my biopsy and Scan and fingers crossed everything will be ok like it was last time . .

I am SO happy to have found you out there!  After 15 years of menopause, I got cramps and a very light period after a steroid injection to my tailbone area.....    I am 5 weeks out and still bothered by cramps and lower back pain.  My orthopedic surgeon who gave the injection claims now that he had heard of this, but only in pre-menopausal women.  My gynecologist said she is certain this is the cause of my pain.  I am very sad that I wasn't warned of this side effect.  It will have to be a VERY dire situation before I will have another steriod injection!

Hi I had 2nd ultrasound 2 days before Hysteroscopy and the 'possible ' polyps had vanished, blood loss was minimal by then. I cancelled the Hysteroscopy but kept a consultation appt. with Gynaecologist
We discussed cortisone and the possibility of it thinning the lining of the womb and this may or may not have been the reason for weeks of blood loss ,was it all a coincidence,? I don't really know , still going for follow up check next month.
