My fiance has finished his treatment for the second time. During the treatment we were told that we should not get pregnant till at least 6 months after last dose. Well I just found out that I am pregnant and believe to be near 6wks along which is around his last shot. He wants to terminate because of the chance of birth defects and the harm it may cause to me. I don't know very much of the side effects to the child but I don't want to terminate if there is still a good chance the baby will come out okay this will be my 3rd child. Does any one know of any one in this situation? He was on pegasus, riboflavin and incivek. I need help in doing research before making a final decision on what is the best action to take.

Hi Guest,

Incivek is pretty adamant about NOT getting pregnant and even states "you must use two forms of birth control..."  You must continue birth control for at least 6 months after treatment has ended.  This applies to both partners.

There is a phone number to call: 1-800-593-2214.  It's the Ribavirin Pregnancy Registry.  They collect data about what happens to mothers and their babies if the mother takes ribavirin while pregnant.

I think you mean ribovarin, not riboflavin.  Incivek is used as part of a drug combination with ribovarin and a pegintereron alfa such as Pegasys.  Riboflavin is vitamin B2.

Hope it helps.
