I have had cronic pancreatitis for over 3yrs now. It has been very difficult to get through. I had to spend 6wks in the hospital, have them try multiple ERCPs to no avail. Right now it is just being managed cuz I am 13.5wks pregnant. The week before I found out I was pregnant my GI Dr. wanted me to meet a surgon to get a distal pancreatectomy, which I do NOT want to do. Everything I have heard and researched was very bad in regards to the surgery.

But now all is on hold cuz of the pregnancy. I am very excited about it but scared out of my mind! There is very little research on the two conditions, anybody know anything about them together or has anybody gone through it and can give me any ideas of what to expect or what you went through.

I have experienced the same thing now for over 2 yrs.  Oddly enough, I've been more healthy thru my pregnancy than I have been in years.  I am currently 34 weeks pregnant.  I have been hospitalized a few times for minor pancreatic related issues (low potassium, and seizures) however, over all it has went rather well.  My baby is small to date.  I started off at 5 ft 4, 108 lbs, and currently am up to 130.  My GI told me to eat til I couldn't eat anymore, as I have difficulty maintaining a healthy weight.  I have sonograms every  3 weeks to check her growth rate, which is consistent, but a few days behind.  This is my first child and I am nervous enough as is.  A lot of my medication has been reduced, and or replaced for the safety of the baby.  I am sure you have also learned to cope.  My biggest concern is her upcoming birth.  I'm not sure how thy plan to tackle the situation, vaginally or via c-section. I was also warned she could come at anytime, because of my condition.  I hope you are doing well. Don't stress it, it's only worse for you and your baby. Best of luck.

Thank you! It is nice to know someone out there has experienced the same issues. I have been having more pain when I eat but over all I have been SO much better then before being pregnant, before I would only eat once every 3 or 4 days. I am soo happy for you making it to 34 weeks! Is you birth plan set? I have been having regular appts with the HROB since I was 5wks. Thank you for the reassurance your response gives me! If you get a chance let me know how far you make it. I know the one study I found did say 100% of the women gave birth preterm. Thank you again!

Hi. I just returned from my drs appt, i have to go for fetal non-stress tests 2xs a week from now til birth. They said it's common for high risk to do this, but also because my baby is on the smaller side, so they want to make sure she is getting proper nutrition and adequate circulation and oxygen. This way they can prevent any major issues. So I suppose we will find out if the whole preterm theory is accurate. I agree with the pain and eating, but Im sure you too have learned to cope. I know it sounds wierd but I hope I don't revert backwards after I give birth. My condition was bad, I don't know if I'm just taking better care of myself now because of the baby and it's made a significant difference, or if my overall health has improved.
