asbrde...if you were fired "for medical reasons" you have a case for discrimination. I tell you this only because you have 2 years only to file a complaint against your employer...I reluctantly did retain counsel (very glad I did now) however, it has caused some friction btw a family member and myself...happens to be my insurance agent....anyway, cover yourself and your family...call a personal injury lawyer today.

The only advice I can give you is to take one day at a time.
I know this bites! I've been dealing with it for almost 3 yrs now. Trying for disability is a total nightmare but I'm doing it anyway. SSI, if you qualify, might be of help to you. You may want to check into it.
I worked for 30 yrs and even though I'm 49yrs old there is no way I could put in a full days work.
I know it's hard but like I said try taking it one day at a time.

I feel your pain as I read all the posts. I thought I was the only one with these problems. Sleeping is impossible because even the pillow puts things in the wrong position. I have upper back spasms all day long, on Soma for that but just moving my head causes stabbing and terrible pain. My doctor told me this would pass...REALLY? I'm still waiting and it.was 2 years ago. I'm now seeing a pain specialist because I have DDD and my lower back is such that I can't stand, sit, or walk comfortably. I hope there is light at the end of this very long tunnel, but I don't hold out any hope.

Guest,

Have you tried the contoured pillows made to support the neck more than the head? When I switched to one of those, it allowed me to sleep better as long as I was on my back. When you lay on your side though, you need more of a flat pillow... that is, if you can get to your side! It took me about 4 months to be able to lay on my side. Now the biggest troubles I have while sleeping is doing a stretch unconciously. My neck cracks pops and wakes me in the worste pain ever!

Good luck, and try one of those pillows!

as sad it is I am happy to know that I am not the only one that is experiencing this amount of pain. I recently had a c2-3 fusion with titanium clip inserted in April 09. At this time 6 months later I am at the point where I wish I never had the surger. I am in more pain now than before the procedure. I was injured in 04 and have had multiple trigger point injections. Months of physical therapy, accupuncture, massage I even at one point had a cervical epidural. All of this pre-op. I was trying everything I could to avoid surgery. After the surgery I had a quick recovery and about 1 1/2 months post-op the pain came back with full force and then some. I am in constant pain starting at the base of my skull that radiates up into my skull (like mutiple growing vines) sorry best way to describe it. Along with this i am enjoying migraines daily. I am also experiencing the pain radiating downward into my shoulders, through my upper back, down my upper and lower arms into my wrists and hands. I am unable to work, I cannot even do the simplest task of cleaning my ears with a q-tip. My neck feels like it has been filled with cement that has dried 90% and I am constantly fighting to make any type of movement. Sleeping is impossible. Holding my neck up for more than five minutes is exhasting. I have to try to support my neck whenever possible and sleep is unheard of. I am a 32 year old with a teenager and pre-teen with sports and horse lessons and pretty soon teaching the oldest one to drive. I have an appointment with my surgeon this coming week and he thinks I may need another surgery. But like all of you every test performed comes back normal and every doctor is left scratching there head and the famous saying "your too young to feel this way", which in my mind sais they have no clue.

I will write after I have my appointment to keep you all up to date. I appreciate all the postings as it is hard to find information regarding these issues. Remember you have to keep smiling cuz there is nothing else you can do. XD

I can not believe how many people have the same exact problem as myself. It was almost like I was reading my own story. Amazing!! I have had pain for almost a year. I got hurt on 3/21/10, had surgery on 4/29/10 and I still off work, and in sever pain. If I don't go back to work by 3/31/10 my work is going to terminate me. I got injured at work and I can't even bear to stand for anymore than 15 min. How am i suppose to go back to work like that? I injured c5-6, had 3 cortizone shots, and now i'm waiting for results from a CT contrast where they shot iodine in my spine to find out where the problem is. I hate being on pills all the time...it's causing an ulcer. I'm only 36 years old and i'm worse than my 75 year old father lol. that has parkensens ever haha. The only type of relief I have ever had, and I wasn't going to believe it at first; was medical marajuana. I can't believe what a difference it made. Even though I really didn't like the idea in the beggining; but my Mom kept begging me; "try something different, try smoking." Not saying that what ever is wrong dissapears, but it really helps with the pain. I want to find out what's wrong with me.

Same thing... I had  two disk push through pushing on my spinal cord.I had Anterior Cervical disectomy with fusion C5-6. Im 4 weeks post op. When I woke up the day of surgery ALL the pain I was in was gone. This lasted 2 weeks. Week 3 I started having pain in my neck shoulder and down my right arm again. In the last week the pain has gotton so sever It's making me sick to my stomach. I can't sleep and just starting to depress me because I woke up pain free and now the pain is back even worse then what I had before the surgery. Left message with my doctor because i'm worried something is wrong.  Does anyone know if this is normal? Has anyone started to feel better?

Nothing helps, i constantly hurt! I try to stretch my neck and arms all day long to try to loose up, but nothing helps. I am 46 year old and don't feel like doing anything. Any advice

Hi. I don't know how often this gets looked at but.... I too had the same surgery 3 years ago. It worked very well for me. About a year ago I got the pain inbetween my shoulder blades. It is slowly progressed now to my right shoulder! My surgery was on the left side of my neck if that makes a difference. So the pain is now going down my right arm. This is rather frustrating. I too get that electrical shock feeling at times. What I wonder is after you have a cervical fusion do you not have any neck muscles anymore? Do you know. That I cannot lay my head back in a shampoo bowl to get my hair washed cause the pressure leaning back hurts so bad! That really sucks. Then on another hand. I don't even want to complain about anything to my husband of pain. Because the surgery should of been a cure. Than like someone says ,, neurologist takes MRI or x ray and everything looks fine yet you have all this pain but they don't want to prescribe RX for pain anymore because the surgery should have fixed the problem ,, so now what?
