I hear you Cathy,
The doctors know or maybe they don’t but when they act as if you are crazy continually coming to them because of these weird symptoms.
12/16 had abdomen surgery, 7 days later had a burning sensation on the left side of my head as if someone was branding my brain. Immediately anxious and anxiety could not even get on a bus. One entire year deal it with anxiety not knowing why. I was normal before surgery NORMAL!
Just last Wednesday got frustrated and looked up high cortisol level. The culprit- cortisone or cortosteriod.

How long after injection did your side effects go away?

I'm in the UK but this is my experience. History: 2 x elbow = relief no problems, 4 x r/h shoulder= pain whilst receiving injection only from one doctor, the other 3 no pain, relief lasts around 3-6months, badly torn and ripped tendons unrepairable, without it the pain is unbearable, depo-medrol for osteoarthritis in ankle x 2, really hurt both times, only slight relief, second injection only yesterday but now can taste something like metal all the time and tongue tingles!!!!! I've had 6 injections over the past 12 months, so the body must rid itself quickly of this medication or would not the relief last longer?? So for me its a must have injection, thus far the pain relief outweighs the negatives. I've also found the first injection does very little and starts to improve the pain etc only after the 2 or 3rd one. I can access my records on-line so if anyone wants to know the exact dose and cocktail I've had just ask and I'll post. Good luck everyone.

I just got a cortisone shot in my right knee yesterday (march 9th, 2018) around 1pm. By 4pm my entire body ached. The next morning I woke up throwing up. I had the hiccups for 6 straight hours and it felt like I had been hit by a train. This is way worse than the bone on bone pain I had before the shot. I talked to a few people who told me by day three I should start feeling better. I will not op-in for another shot after these reactions.

I had a Cortisone shot a year or so ago, in my left knee. When I walked out of the doors of the hospital the world just tipped upside down and I went burning hot. I managed to get back to the reception and said 'I think I am going to pass out' which I must have done for I came round in a cubicle with an oxygen mask on and a big fan blowing at me. I saw the Doctor who had done the injection but he was outside the cubicle. Eventually the heat wore off my body and the weakness I felt was terrible. The Doctor had gone by the time I came out of the cubicle and to date, no-one seems to know why it happened. My GP said he had not heard of anyone else having that reaction. I have only fainted once before in my life and I am 60, so no way was that just a coincidence. I had had shots before and no reaction but they were 'trigger point' ones. I thought I was going to die that day and no way will I ever have another one. Plus, it did nothing for the pain. Your reaction sounds bad also. These side-effects, on this board, many are not found on the internet. My knees are bone on bone and no matter the pain I will never have one of those shot again!

I had my first cortisone shot in my knee one year ago and 4days later on my stomach I developed this pimple like rash that itched like crazy. It lasted a good two weeks. Got another shot in the knee and shoulder and 22 days later, the exact rash near both elbows, my knee and ankle. It’s been 5daya so far and itching like crazy, expecting it to last about the same.

To all who found these posts of women having overt reactions to steroid injections( like myself) still recovering after an excessive amount of injections! Please have your treating doctors read these accounts of similar complaints and we should hold the pharmaceutical companies responsible and do further research into the severity of the effects post injection! My doctors all said the same thing, I’ve never heard of people having adverse reactions! To assume “WE” must be embellishing or to suggest it’s something else! Please, someone stand up for us, it has ravished my body so severely I don’t have the strength to fight!

Dear guest, and too all afflicted with joint pain or bone pain or post surgical issues, my heart goes out to you. You are not alone! Over the course of my life I’ve received around 14 steroid inj to various body parts. It seems the higher the dose and the more of them the worse symptoms appear. The last few resulted in ER visits with complete work ups ctscan lab work, iv fluids; only to yield no obvious relationship to the injections. I had EGDs, I’ve repl therapy for dehydration tx severe and pain Nausea vomiting, manic anxiety etc. one dr suggested it’s a reaction to the preservative in the steroid bottle. I have Hashimoto thyroid dis. Autoimmune and post menopausal. I had my gallbladder removed also post inj. Severe cardiac arrhythmia with Labile BP. I will never have another inj of steroid again; so I live in severe debilitating pain now! Have your drs read these accounts, and know your not alone or crazy; truly more research needs to be done! Best health to all! And keep posting your situations!!!

I received Cortizone shot in my hip's last Thursday. It is Tuesday night right now. First thing I noticed Friday morning was numbness in both of my wrists and a headache. The Numbness lasted all day and I woke up OK the next day but the headache turned worse with jaw pain and tooth pain and a general feeling of loopiness . My face became flusthed that evening when I was trying to sleep which was to no avail because I haven't slept a good night since. My hands are shaking I'm dizzy and I have an upset stomach. It's been five days and I'm hoping this subsides soon. I also lost weight which i'm not sure if related. Thank you for your post says I take comfort in realizing I am not alone. I had Cortizone shots in both hips 11 years ago and got instant relief before I even walked out of the place and did not have one side effect. The good news is the bursitis in my hips feels way better. Not really sure if the side effects will be worth it in the future. I'll decide once I see how long the bursitis feels better. The doctor did not mention one of these side effects.

Dear Guest, and to who all seek answers and the notion you are not crazy, or embellishing symptoms of post steroid; cortisone injections. I have read here that the s/s post inj vary quite a bit, and it seems treating physicians DO NOT explain the dramatic effects, they deny it generally speaking , leaving us to question our own sanity! My MD thought it could be the preservative in the med ampule!? I reacted severely to my inj which did lessen the pain, but caused various overt and life altering other reactions. My last injection was Dec 15, 2017- it resulted in an ER visit and I’m still recovering from its effects. Now, the pain in my shoulder that the injection-only served to mask as a “treatment “ has such severe pain everyday is just wrought with immobility and pain! WE need to hold the DRs accountable, and have pharmaceutical companies research these effects!!! This is not a joke and “we” are not alone! Please if the panel of medical professionals are reading this, please prompt an investigation into these reactions! I will gladly speak up! We need the media to report on this! Not to withhold treatment for those it helps but to inform the public that there could be severe adverse reactions!!!!
