I just had my first one! 10 days after I am walking L4-5. The staff said no to my injection. I reacted with so much anxiety! Both my husband and I told the doctor I had my Diazepam but it hadn't worked it. I was far too upset [ actually paniced is the word] I had my Diazepam 10
mg. but lit hadn't kicked in yet! 0ven an hour later this smithering 61 year adult still clinging to her husband, finally. When the RX kicked in I had no pproblem. I am Bipolar with anxiety! They are understanding, they were of this paniced stricken!

I had cortizone injection in my back for two frozen shoulders. After the anistetic wore off, the pain increased 100 times. I cried...screamed...never slept for 4 to 5 months. I took 10 mg Vicoden with Vodca to relieve the pain for about an hour per day. I don't like meds or alcohol, so I only took it once a day so that I could cook a meal for my family. Now I suffer from puss on both elbows and rock hard bumps on my hands. DON'T DO IT!! The resulting pain in INTENSE!!

Marsha-I had almost the exact same symptons. Im a 52 year old man in excellent health besides having 2 bulging discs, for which I received the epidural steroid injections-which i had done on 5/15/2012.

I would never advise anyone to have these shots! The side effects are horrible-with very little chance of the shots working according to the Doctors who prescribe them-less than a 30% chance they work.

I read most the articles and understand the feedback of cortizone injection and eperdural steroids for the back. I have been taking the cortizone and eperdural steroids for my back and constantly gain weighed. I had several shots of cortizone for my carpel tunnel syndrome on both hands which I had surgery on both. Now the eperdural I am worried because I forget, terrible headaches which makes me cry and I have a vision problem . I try surgery for the hernia disk but was told my platelet is very low, so my surgery was cancelled. I really and truly don't want these steroids in my body. I used cymbalta and lycria which will ease the pain but will come back. I wish if there could be any other solutions than these injections and medication.  The weighed gain is bad for me because with my disc my dr said  it will shrink me and gradually will need a stick,I am still young though in my fifty's.

I had methylprednisone 120mg 5mos ago for allergies?? I guess.. My ears hurt and he gave me the injection. Needless to say I still got sick. I had TERRIBLE insomnia, anxiety, shakes and became slightly delusional after staying up nearly a week. I've gained 10lbs and the anxiety is still here. It's been 5 freaking months.. How long will this last?! I'm 5ft 7 and was 125lbs.. 120mg seems a little high for me! Plus when I called te doc to report the side effects, he told me it couldn't be from the shot.. Which then made me feel like a lunatic and I started googling all kids diagnoses :( Hate this!

These comments have been eye-openers.  I've had 2 sets of the injections in the last 6 months and I've gained so much weight (I was already overweight) and am retaining fluid like crazy (which has not been a problem previously).  Ugh...I feel like a blowfish!  For those of you who have had the problem with weight gain, was there a point when you started to lose it?  And has anyone else had a problem with water retention?

OMG!!!!!! I can't believe this....I finally found a site that really relates to what has happened to me and i am NOT loosing my mind.  Like everyone on here, I too have had 2 ESI, cervical due to an accident.  I don't want to go into the accident bottom line is I had these EVIL shots and they have destroyed my body and I don't know what to do about it.  I complained to my Dr. about al of my symptoms and  he thinks it's all in my head!  I am a petite woman and wasn't ever overweight.  well, I am now it's all in my stomach and hips and can't get my pants up past my knees.  I can't wear anything remotely tight even my bra.  It trigger heartburn that lasts for days.  My stomach has a constant gnawing pain and I now take Nexim.  I feel like I have an ulcer, Sweat all the time, irrittable watch what I eat and walk my treadmill.  My pain is worse than before the ESI and now I have muscle spasms, cramps and sharp pains in my stomach.  Will this monster ever leave my body???  Can someone on here help me, please?  What can I do??

My health has been damaged by  epidural steroid injection treatment I had for back problems. I looked after my body, didn't drink alcohol, ate healthy and didn't like taking prescription drugs. Then I had a steroid epidural for back problems which my husband convinced me to have and I reacted badly right after and was in a bad way.I couldn't sleep for more than 20 minutes and wake up to go the toilet my legs and arms hurt with fluid. I became restless.

When I was confused from lack of sleep and pain, my husband verbally bullied me into taking more prescription drugs against my better judgement -- not in high doses; I couldn't take high doses. My body was ill from the toxic drugs and I should have detoxed not thrown more drugs in. Eight months later after my health was getting worse, I developed bad health problems that stopped me from eating my good healthy foods. I still couldn't sleep. I have pains and bowel problems. I have become housebound with liver, pancreas, gallbladder, kidney and digestive problems. It's getting worse. I am convinced the drugs have damaged my body with long term problems.

Hi, I have just had my 2nd injection. The first was on 12/16 and the 2nd was on 12/31.The first injection was no big deal. I had some numbness as if I had gone to the dentist for the first day. I starting getting hat flashes but I thought they were from menopause ( I am 51) Although, I had not had any hot flashes for over a year. The 2nd injection that I got 9 days ago has been a lot worse. The day after getting the injection I had terrible anxiety, disorientation, difficulty breathing and thought I was having a stroke! After talking to the Dr I determined it was a panic attack. Here is what is most important. I have been having panic attacks daily and really bad hot flashes. I used to suffer from panic disorder and have been free from panic for over 7 years. Now it's back! My worst nightmare.

I had 12 injections over a 1 year period and developed Cushings Syndrome. It took 7 months after the last injection for my body to stop producing excess cortisole. I had every syptom of Cushings known to man! After 7 months I stopped retaining fluid; blood sugar is back to normal; my face doesn't look like a flying saucer; triglycerides are back to normal; exhaustion is much better; eye problems are better. I still have high bood pressure, sleep problems, anxiety and depression issues, skin problems, night sweats, weakness and 14 pounds of excess weight around my middle. It is very s-l-o-w to get rid of this stuff. If I had known what Cushing's was, I would never have gotten the injections. And, I have to have spinal fusion surgery anyway!!!

Having increasing problems from inflamed nerves resulting from ruptured disk beteen L5-L6 my orthopedic surgen referred me to an anesthesiologist for epidural steroid injections.  The first injection was three months ago and resulted in a big reduction, but not emulation, of my symptoms.  The doctor thought a second injection was in order and that was done three weeks ago.

They gave me general anesthesia both times and when I woke up after the second injection the nurse was trying to put another blood pressure cuff my other arm as the first one put on was giving very high and erratic readings.  There was nothing wrong with first readings.  I also work up with a headach (which is a rare occurance for me).  The suggestion was massive doses of Ibuporfin and eight or more cups of coffee daily (for the caffeine).  My headaches continue after three weeks, my blood pressure has gradually dropped but remains high, my blood sugar is high, and I have water retention.  The Ibuprofin was tearing my stomach up so I stopped that.  They are suggesting a blood patch now but I am almost afraid to do that.

They did not tell me of the possible side effects before the injections and still aren’t telling me much, most of my information is off the internet.
