OMG!So glad I found all of your stories here! I have disc herniation and an annular fissure/with sciatica at L5-S1. I took the short term six day steroid pack, orally. Nine pills into it, I went into a manic/psychotic episode. I was seeing sh*t. It was UNREAL, but I went from bedridden to walking that night, so I know that it worked, but it was NOT worth the side effects. Frightened, I had no idea this was a real side effect so kept my mouth shut. Recently, i was checking into steroid shots for my back because I'd heard wonderful things about them. OH sh*t, no way! I researched the NIGHT BEFORE my injection and found a ton of people were having major side effects from the INJECTION. I am SO GLAD i didn't do it! I cancelled my procedure and will never take that stuff again as long as I can help it.IT was the MOST terrifying experience I have ever had in my life! Along with feeling like I couldn't breathe and that my stomach was coming up through my chest.BE VERY VERY CAREFUL!

going through the same exact thing! Except my doctor tapers me every month! start at 20 mg cortisol all the way down to 0 then the stim test. done it twice now and still no output from adrenals. I am on my third try but it is so devastating and traumatic every time i come down. I feel as if im dissappearing can't walk and have almost no memory, fainting and very low b/p. absolutely no sex drive. My question is did the docs do this every month to you or just one year of cortisol then off.

i had epidural steroid injections to treat sciatica one month ago and again two weeks ago. i have found a lot of information about the side effects, but i have been unable to find out how long the side effects last. i had hot flashes for a day or two but they went away quickly. i had a huge increase in pain that lasted for a week after each injection. i had insomnia for a few days following each injection. here are the side effects that have not gone away: -getting sick from the steroids weakening my immune system -anxiety -nervousness -depression -mood swings -nausea and vomiting -fatigue -round, puffy face -increase in appetite -weight gain -irritability -headache -menstrual cramps worse than usual and period was over two weeks late does anyone know how long i can expect these side effects to last? thank you for your help!

Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience. I truly hope you have found another means of pain control and have lost the weight and the effects of the injections are diminishing.

I was to have injections in both knees today and by chance found your entry, helping me to make the decision to cancel this means of pain control. Thank you. Thank you.

Had a cervical epidural on 11/22.  Had insomnia, flushing, developed a headache less than 2 days later that still has not gone away.  Pain in my left shoulder and neck is worse.  My face is puffy on the left side.  I want to eat everything in sight.  Was peeing 7 times a night even though I didn't really drink that much during the day.

This headache behind my eyes will not quit.  Sometimes the feeling is so intense I want to jump off a bridge. It feels like someone is taking a plunger and trying to push my brain out of the top of my head. Nothing helps.  I just have to wait it out.

I am scheduled for Round 2 - I don't think I am going to go.

I am 67 and in a nursing home after having had a steriod injection in my lumbar spine for back pain. I am here because of memory loss and have nobody at home to make sure I am safe. I do not remember from day to day and it has been almost 2 mos. since my injection.

Thank you for this post. I recently had an epidural steroid injection and 2 days later I feel like I'm terrible. I have horrible sweats, to weak to do anything, shortness of breath after to much walking. The pain has subsided and I got of the pain meds thinking that's what making me feel so bad. I've lost my appetite. I'm not sure if I'm reacting to the inject or what. Don't think I'll be doing this again.

I GOT IT FROM steroids and my skin fell off , I went up to 240 lbs, I got cataracts . and I am now blind in one eye, I tried to sue the dr that gave me too many shots but the attorney screwed me, I have so many health problems from the cushings, it is gone now but it left me damaged , the dr asked me why my skin was coming off like a snake he did not know it was cushings

wow, it's reassuring to read that I'm not the only one experiencing these side effects right after and on going after epidural steroid injections

1. uncontrollable appetite especially for crappy food

2. fatigue

3 sleeplessness

4 depression

I didn't get any relief after having these injections and don't know how long these side effects will last. I am an extremely fit person normally and I have always had control over my food, my diet and my mood. It's very frustrating not knowing when this will go away. I am thinking I might see the Doc again and tell him about what is going on. I have herniated L4L5 pretty badly, considering micro discectomy after 5 months of pain and nothing really helping. I hate this weight I've gained and I hate not feeling in control of my own appetite.

What type of treatment did you get? We're there any signs of a tumor?

Hi heather, my name is Melissa. My daughter is 15 years old and suffers from low back pain due to a cheerleading injury. We went to the doctor and had an MRI. The MRI showed a bulging disc. We tried physical therapy with no avail. We opted for cordisteroid injections. She had 2 injections and we noticed weight gain and horrific redish stretch marks at the site and down her legs. She is so upset. We went to an endocrinologist who tested her for cushiness disease. Thank god she does not have that disease. However the stretch marks are so visible. And she is trying to lose the weight she gained. Have you found anything out? Have your marks faded? Did you do anything else to get rid of them. Anything you could tell me would be so appreciated.
