Hi Michelle, I too came off the depo shot last year after many years, again for the same reasons, I am now 48. It's been hellish for months and thought maybe I had already entered menopaus. Blood test said I was no where near it but bod was saying different. So I checked out HRT cake, you can get the recipe on line. I changed my diet to include some of the ingredients and bake the odd cake. I avoided alcohol and dairy too. Within a week all the pains disappeared and within a month my periods returned. Worth a try, I continue to include these foods in my diet now and feel fabulous. Good luck.

Hi Michelle and to all you other women who are suffering like too because of after effects of depo,

Just really wanted to say the side effects which i have been experiencing too ill list them it may be easier. Some syptoms below have gone completely but some still linger around and its been almost 1 year since my last shot.

Here goes!

Tender breasts that cause sharp chest pain ( Sometimes think i may be having signs of a possible heart attack!! )

Crying over nothing and flying off the handle at silly things, results in me slamming doors, shouting, kicking things then i cry because i get upset as to why have acted this way as its just not me :(

My partner and i argue due to my loss of sex drive and random mood swings

I eat lots i have always been a big eater but still!!

I used to have strange dreams too some nightmares but they seem to have gone.

My skin sometimes gets irritated easier than it used to for example when im shaving etc.

ALSO there was one point i used to have strange thoughts, ill not go into detail but thoughts that i knew werent normal and not things that would EVER cross my mind, sounds strange and weird i know but its difficult to put it into words.

I honestly thought that depo was amazing with having no periods and never having to worry about when i had sex but i wish id never chosen it as a contraceptive as its caused most of my relationship to be full of unhappiness and it even ruined our holiday last year :( Ive even sometimes questioned in the past things like   Do i still love him? Would i rather be with someone else? It was horrible.

I seem to have started to get regular periods now though although i always have symptoms of being pregnant which can be stressful when you just want to enjoy life before even thinking about trying for kids.

Anyway ladies let me know what you think and if you have had or are having similar symptoms to me.

So I'm on my third month of the depo shot and I have only gotten one shot. I have absolutely horrible acne and fatigue should I stay strong? Or try something else my periods are fine and its just been some light spotting tho I don't know when. I ruined a brand new pair of undies cuz I had no idea I was gonna start it. This tiredness is like never ending and I eat healthy three meals a day and go to bed at nine and wake up at six. I also walk almost everywhere.

I too have been on the Depo shot for 16 years. I am thinking about discontinuing but would like to hear from someone else with long term use. How will it effect my mind and body when I go off of it? I have a family history of osteoporosis and have taken nothing all these years.

I was on it for a total of 16 years. I stopped the shot about 2 years ago because I'm older and contraceptives after the age of 35 are dangerous apparently. Anyway, I don't have any symptoms with weak bones or anything. I do work out at least 5 days a week vigourously (mixed martial arts type training) so that might be the reason my moods been stable. The only difference now is that my monthly cycles are back unfortunately. It did take a year for my body to get back to normal so to speak. Make sure to eat right and take your vitamins. I take Mega Woman from GNC. Since I don't drink milk I make sure to take my calcium every day.

I've been on Depo-Prevera going on 17 years on 07/06/13. I got the shot in the hospital the day after having my son. I got on it at age 23 and I just turned 40 in February. I have horrible Endometriosis & not having a monthly period was an answer to my prayers! I had mentioned to my doctor about my concern but she told me that if it works than I should leave it alone. I don't know when I'm suppose to stop the shots because of my bodies normal response to go into memipause or can I just keep taking it so I don't get moody & hormonal?

I've been reading everybody's stories but no one says if they ever go away. I'm off depo since October, don't have periods yet. My biggest problem is back and neck problems and sore joints in general. I have sore breasts, mood swings, dizziness, and random spotting. I was told by a friend who had lower back problems with depo that after periods start again her pain disappeared. Has anyone experienced back pain? Did it go away after your system went back to normal? Because doctors say my spine is fine, I've tried osteopaths, chiropractor, acupuncture and massages and can't get rid of this constant back and neck pain.

Please add the BV as decribed by many women in the link to negative side effects of Depo.

https://www.steadyhealth.com/Depo_provera_break_through_bleeding_caused_bacterial_vaginosis__BV_t197898.html

I think I have that too..Now I have to go see doctor again for this!  Doctor said nothing about this when i was getting it. It is awful, disgusting and every woman who intents to get this shot know about it.

I have been on this shot for a long time started around middle school maybe 14 and I'm now 22. I haven't had any serious side effects. Only decreased sex drive. I'm still a virgin maybe this is why.. I do have knee pain that started last summer and docs still can't figure out why. I also have pain in my hands and legs, neck and back. Idk if this is because of the depo.  i do know that i have tendinosis of the quad tendon. I was told this was do to extendious exercise from going to boot camp. I'm 22 and feel like i'm 40 with all these problems. I'm currently taking gababpentin to see if it will help with my pain, hasn't yet.. Maybe it is this shot that is all my problems. Should i go off of this shot with all the horrible side effects i have herd off people coming off it or stick with it? I'm scared to go off of it. I have another shot due this monday. Some one please help!

I only had the depo once and I decided I did not want it anymore because I had all the pregnancy symptoms but without the baby for 3 months. I have been spotting and bleeding for about 4 months now. I was supposed to get my next shot may 5th but I really want a baby and im tired of waiting. But these past two weeks have been rough I had to go to the doctor for a major migraine that caused my right arm to go completely numb. Then I was given hyros to help with that but they didnt help at all. Then I start having a staping pain in my lower right stomach area followed by pain in my uterus. *excuse the graphics* I have been spotting old blood and then ill bleed fresh blood. My uterus is so sore I dont want anything to touch it. I dont know whats wrong or if its safe to start trying to have a baby. I am assuming that these are just withdrawals from the shot. I would not recommend this to anyone its been the worst.

i was on depo for 3 years and everything was fine. i went off it because of the chance of decreased bone density later in life. i had constant bleeding after it. im only now getting things sorted properly back to one period a month after nearly 4 years of trying other things including depo again- thats how desperate i got ! im on norimin now and thought things were sorted until i started getting brown discharge a week before my periods due and bloating, backache and headaches.

depo screwed my body up big time!!

Thank you so much for your post... I am experiencing everything posted here. Thank you for posting something positive... I haven't read too many updates about people getting through the detox process, although this thread is over a year old. Hopefully more people come back an give us hope! I haven't posted my story personally because it mirrors MUCH of what has already been said here. Ditto everybody. I urge you ladies to please come back and post how you're getting along.
