Hi and welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear you are having so much trouble. what pain meds are you on and has your surgeon given you anything to help reduce the swelling? Can I ask, when you have a BM, are you straining at all? If so, this could be some of the cause of the discomfort? Where are you from? Which country?

Hi All, I'm new here but have had the same surgery, thought I'd share my story and seek your advice as still having problems :(
I went in to have an anal skin tag removed only, however upon doing the procedure my surgeon found 2 internal roids and removed them also. The first 2 days seemed relatively pain free, that is until I had my first BM - pain like ive never ever experienced and I've given birth without pain relief. I thought i was going to pass out from the pain. It was like that for around 2-3 weeks and I suffered with sickness and diahorea too from the medication I was on so all in all felt like death! Back and forth to the doctors and feeling seriously depressed. Well its now just over 4 weeks post op and I have terrible swelling - much much worse than what I had previously! I only went in for the surgery becuase I was embarrassed and now it looks three times worse and bigger - I am so so depressed and worried. I asked the surgeon in my post op check last week if this would go and he advised it "should" go away. I also now have something pop out after a BM, which I never had before and it takes 5-10 mins to go back in after a BM. It is painful and looks like a white/pink lump protruding from my anus, in addition to the three giant swelled lumps that reside there permenantly. Has anyone else had a simillar experience and did it go away? I feel like the surgeon is telling me nothing. I am so angry about this all, especially as I was never meant to have this operation in the first instance. I'm hoping for stories of recovery to give me some hope...

I too had this surgery done on 3rd feb 2012...even though it's been close to 4 weeks but so far it hasn't been comfortable at all. BM's are still causing stinging pain...I am unable to stand-up from my seat without pushing against the arm rests with my hands and still it causes pain.

I have had surgery 3 days ago and have not had a bowel movement yet. I am able to pee and have a lot of gas. The first night was the worst and I couldn't get comfortable. The dressing gauze came out and that helped to relieve some of the pressure. Now the gas had somewhere to go. I thought I would be returning to work on Friday just 6 days after surgery but I am worried that this is going to get worse before it gets better. I will know more once I have my first bowel movement. All that I've read on here has helped me a lot too. I cried and laughed and could relate to it all. I pray for a speedy recovery. If I had read this posts before operation I don't know for sure if I would have gone through with it. Baby wipes and pushing "them" back in would have suited me just fine. My flare ups were only about once a year as I had managed to figure out how to "deal" with the hemerrhoids. BTW before this surgery, I didn't even know how to spell the word or what the surgical procedure was called. I am looking forward to less bloating. Did anyone else realize that they got very bloated? Part of it must be that I haven't had a BM and the other is that yesterday I started my period. Double wammy! What has surprised me the most is the different advice that different drs. give their patients. How come no one told me about milk of magnesia or that there is a cream to help with the BM or with the numbing of that area. I was given a prescription of Tylenol 3 with Codeine. They can be very constipating too. So now I alternate btw them and Advil and this morning I am taking the Extra Strength Tylenol (2) and Advil (3) every 4 to 6 hours alternating between the two. Hope that will help with BM's. I have never been so scared of a BM in all my life. I don't remember recovering from delivering my son to be this painful. I am glad that I kept the sitz bath tub after delivering my son. It is perfect and I may even have my first BM in the warm water (as I read earlier on a different post). I am having deja vu as I feel and look like a pregnant woman. I have so much gas and don't know why I am so bloated. Does anyone else have that problem?

ok..so I had my first BM earlier this day.  After reading everyone's advice, I decided that I would try the Metamucil and Benefiber.  I had a prune and having been munching on Kashi cereal with fiber and eating apples and lots of water as well as a stool softener.  I tried to get the sitz bath ready so that I could have the BM in warm water but there was no time for that so I sat down quickly and experienced the most excrutiating BM ever.  It felt like broken glass.  When I looked at my accomplishment, it was only a small  "shard" only.   I called the dr. to see if he could prescribe something else for me other than the T 3 with Cod.  He said that they were pretty much all the same and that there was nothing.  The gas and bloating were from the codeine he said.  I told him I regretted having it done and he told me that every day would get better and bleeding was normal after a BM.  I am afraid to eat, because I am afraid to poo but I know that in the long run...that will create further problems as the walls of the rectum narrow.  I am hoping that the next bowel movement will not be as painful.  There was a blood clot too and I was worried that I was going to hemmohrage but I didn't.  I had a hard time standing up and told myself to breath so I took in deep breaths to help myself not pass out.  I felt weak and I was scared but I knew that I needed to get my butt in some water.  I managed finally to stand up and prepare the sitz bath.  Since I was bleeding, I thought that I should use luke warm water to try and stop the bleeding.  I recommend the basin like tub thing that sits on the toilet  bowl.  It would be too hard to get into sitting position in a tub.  I wish I had someone to be the nurse...as the lady with the ex helping her in an earlier post.  He was able to time her meds with BM.  Now that would be perfect but for me it isn't an exact science.  I thought that being day surgery this would be small potatoes but this is friken major surgery.  The dr. and the receptionist said that it is the most painful of all the surgeries that they do.  Before going into this, I thought...how bad can it be?  Probably no more than a flare up that lasts 3 to 5 days and can be managed.  SURPISE but no it is way worse.  I pray and I hope that each day will be better.

How are you feeling now? I think recovery would be sooner if I didn't have to have these BM. The pain makes me feel like I'm getting worse. How can it heal when it keeps getting irritated? I am looking forward to less pain. I'm trying to stay positive. It is hard...

my surgeon never told me there was a possibility of growing satans gonads of stabbing pain on my butt but there they are. It started out small the evening of sugery which was 09/24/10, called the surgeon on call who said it was normal. It got bigger over the weekend and by Sunday morning 09/26/10 I was walking like I just rode a horse 'cross country, called the surgeon again who made me feel ignorant for calling again - like "I told you once it was normal' (arrogant sh*t) then huffed and said meet him at the ER then hung up. I had a small loose BM and it relieved some of the pressure so I called back and said forget it, I'm not going to you, I'll wait until Monday 09/27/10 and ask my surgeon to ease my mind. NOT! He looked right at me and asked why I was even there (surgeons are arrogant jackass's) he said it was normal and said it would be gone in a few days to a couple weeks. I said you never told me it was possible to grow gonads on my ass and frick you if I need to be sure I'm OK...he walked out of the room. I got dressed and nobody ever came back in the room so I had to walk out on my own. On Tuesday 09/28/10 the ball reproduced and now I have what looks like a bouquet of pea sized balloons on my butt with a sharp rise in pain. I thought things would get better with time, not worse so I called the surgeons assistant and asked if this was normal ans she asked if I had been sitting much the day before and I was so she said stay flat, sitz baths and take it easy. Nothing eases the pain and sitz baths do nothing but I still do them anyway just in case it being even worse is possible. Ice packs between my cheeks do nothing either. WTF is this and why don't surgeons tell you about this, if this many people post of the complaint those arrogant a$$holes know this is possible. I cannot see how this will be Ok enough for me to sit at my desk starting 10/04/10. This pink cauliflower hanging on my butt is extremely painful, its disgusting because the "seal" is not tight (need I say more) looks horrible and how am I supposed to ever have sex when anything within 18" of it makes me scream not too mention who wants to be like come here honey and have the boyfriend be like AHHHH! What the hell is that! I have not heard ONE PERSON or read even one post where someone said "mine were gone in 14 days, 10 days, 2 months" etc... I am so effing pissed off about this. I did read one person say in 6 months when they were STILL THERE they had another surgery and once again THEY ARE STILL THERE!!!! My surgeon needs a punch in the face and my butt needs an excorsism...

Maxine? When did you have your surgery? Was it two years ago? I hope all is well now.

I just went and read the poopreport.   Turrec writes about his experience with hemmi surgery.  I laughed so hard.  Definately worth the read.  For the last two days, I've had two BM's a day.  It is exhausting and I freak out a little about having them.  It is best if the water is ready to go for the sitz bath.  Also , i've been reading about clearmed pills for hemrrhoids.  has anyone heard of them?  Can you buy them in Canada?  I'm also thinkng to get a toilet stool to help with future BM's and for colon health.  Tommorrow is day 6 post op.  Taking the second day off work.  Right now my biggest fear is leaving the house and having to have a BM somewhere else and without my sitz bath.  I mean, am I supposed to take it with me everywhere I go?  I am also thinking to get a donut pillow.  HAS anyone had experience with clearmed?  toilet stool?  or donut pillow?

Had the donut pillow, loved it, a year and half later i am still sitting on it at work. Sitz bath is a god-send. I was not able to go without the sitz bath for about 10 days, and i didn't feel clean unless i used it. Day 14 i was in work had to go, terrified, but managed it without hysteria and flapping of the arms in panic, which i had done for the first 10 days.
the thought of having to go at work terrified me, but i was alright. I still couldn' t wait to get home, and the first thing i did was sit in the sitz bath, it felt great!

Thank you so much for answering some of my questions. I have been afraid to leave the house today but today would have been a good day as I had no BM. I don't want to go too long without having one, but 2 days with 2 BM's a day wore me out. It is physically and mentally exhausting. Today is day 6 and a much better day. I will venture out tomorrow I think for a donut pillow. I too would fear a BM outside the home. It's not like you can wipe with a tissue but perhaps I'll carry baby wipes with me in a ziplock bag and then sit on a heat pad to help with the throbbing pain. Now if BM's could be like clockwork, I could time them perfectly. I hope the worst is over and I'm healing nicely. How long before the pain with Bm's wasn't present or blood for that matter? Did anyone experience witch hazel and what about clear med pills?

The pain for me was done after about day 8. I started taking Tylenol once a day after that, and was fine. I had bowel movements with blood again at day 16, but it was occasional nothing significant. I always put on this anaesthetic cream the dr gave me, after the sitz bath, and witch hazel works too. I always carried, wipes in a baggy, and filled hot water in the baggy before entering the bathroom idf possible) Cream, anything to make it less uncomfortable. I was still swollen at 3 weeks for my check up, but other than that the pain was over, and bms were ok. I haven't looked back, am so happy i had it done, even after the two weeks of hell in the bathroom, it was worth it.

Hi

You are not alone with the foul smelling (like something crawled up there and DIED) odor. My surgery was 5 days ago and it began last night. Woke up with it all over my sheets. I was stunned and soooo embarrassed by how horrible it smelled. When I finally had BM this morning, the smell was even worse. It seems as though no matter how had you scrub/wash yourself or clothing or bedding, you can't get the smell out! I called my Dr and he said this was normal and to not worry.....so as of now, ok just putting my trust in his expertise. Oh how I hope it goes away soon! My poor husband was gagging and eyes very watery, on the verge of puking, poor thing :(

I too can relate as I had the surgery 11 days ago. Yucky for sure...smells like rotten pizza boxes...or like puke itself. Fun and games all around.
