Went to my doc today and told him I was ready to start tapering of my Xanax. I've been on either it or Klonopin for about a year at the 1 mg level.

Tonight, I'm taking a plain Xanax (instead of the Xanax XR I have been taking) and reducing it by 1/2. I will cut a .5 pill in two. Anyway, I'm a little nervous because several months ago I attempted a cold turkey quit off of K-pin. Boy, I'll NEVER forget the withdrawals I went through then. It was a nightmare.

I hope this tapering over the next several months will work out. Pray for me!

Thanks so much for your reply! My husband talked me into going down by just a quarter instead of half, at least for a couple days. This morning, I didn't feel any different and will take the same amount tonight. Then on Friday, I'll take the plunge and go off a full half.

Yes, withdrawals can be blacker than black. Once you've gone through it, you NEVER want to again. My doc had been the person to tell me to go off the Klonopin cold turkey and "just take it when you feel panicky." Bad advice but perhaps he didn't know how sensitive I was too that med. I decided to take the high road and give him the benefit of the doubt rather than go to a new doc. We both learned a lot from that episode!
