Any toxic chemicals that pass from mother’s blood to a fetus may cause birth defects. It is possible that babies are being exposed to perfumes, flame-retardants, and non-stick chemicals when they are the most sensitive. It is especially emphasized chemicals possible affect on brain’s development and intelligence.
Tests showed that products in which these chemicals are found are all over us, like cleaning fluids and sprays, tin can linings, perfumes and cosmetics and even baby bottles. Others include banned pesticides like DDT that have lingered in the environment for decades. Chemicals like brominated flame retardants, are suspected of causing learning and behavioral problems in babies exposed in the womb.
These findings call for urgent measures of controlling the production and sale of chemicals that may damage babies’ health.
