I am on the same medications and I complete agree with you. I love being able to function on 5 hours of sleep. I get so much done even after working!

I was prescribed Zyban (Bupropion) 150 mg SR twice daily for smoking cessation. Apart from some negative side effects, ie. daily minor in the background kinda headache, dry mouth, dizziness, hyperactivity, and insomnia, I quit smoking relatively easily within two weeks of starting the medication.

I didn't notice any appetite supression, or any significant weight loss. I was at an appropriate weight for my height, and level of fitness as I workout daily and eat a well balanced healthy diet.

Since I was able to quit smoking, and felt confident I wouldn't relapse, I decided to ween my self off the medication after being on it for only two months, (my Dr. wanted to keep me on it for possibly a year, as I was a pack a day smoker for 20 years). I tapered by only taking one 150 mg SR pill for two weeks, then cold turkey, all without my Dr's knowledge.

Let me start by stating I experienced such a crash emotionally. I was tense, irritable, and generally unhappy; although I was finally able to sleep. After a few weeks I was back to feeling like myself again. But I realized I was happier on Bupropion. I had not noticed, despite the negative side effects, that I wasnt that happy before the medication.

Now here's where weight starts to become a factor. While on the medication I found it to be weight neutral. When I started to taper, I gradually found myself eating more than usual. I thought nothing of it at the time. Then I started to binge eat, which is completely uncharacteristic. And it got worse, I felt hungry all the time, and for high sugar carb food. I gave up sugar well over year ago, along with breads/pastas, so my craving and eating these types of foods baffled not only myself but those close to me. Needless to state I gained weight, 20 lbs in twenty days, and all the while I was hitting the gym harder than ever.

Because my Dr. did not know about my stopping the medication, she was thrilled that Zyban worked for my smoking cessation, and happily prescribed a six months supply of the generic brand Sandoz Bupropion 150 mg SR twice daily (my insurance did not cover the Zyban brand name beyond three months, but will cover a Wellbutrin/Zyban generic).

Now things got interesting. I started the medication right away taking one 150 mg SR per day for three days. During the three day I braced myself for the negative side effects to kick in. Nada. OK, I then start to take two of the pills daily on day four. Immediately my appetite became suppressed. From binge eating hight sugar, fatty foods, to absolutely zero appetite. I am now on day 10. Two of the negative side effects kicked in, the dry mouth, and insomnia. But I have dropped 10 lbs, because I have to force myself to eat. And when I force myself to eat, I have time to make the healthily choices I've done for so long in the past, and do not crave junky food - hallelujah!!

This generic has given me the weight loss side effect, and im happy about that!

The generic does nothing for me. The brand name WELLBUTRIN is the only drug that has helped me long term.

I have been on about 2 1/2 weeks and slowly going off Lexapro 20mg. Have had NO side effects of any kind. So nothing for going off slowly (over 4 weeks) and nothing for starting on 150mg Wellbutrin. Would love to start losing my appetite as I can lose a few pounds.....but so far, no side effects whatsoever. Taking the generic as well.

I am similar to you (put on 50lbs on 20mg Lexapro) but I don't intend on dropping Lexapro totally as it effects Seratonin and Wellbutrin effects Dopamine. I am lowering my Lex to 10mg a day slowly and I am definitely short tempered and little impatient. Wellbutrin is 150mg a day. I would decrease the Lexapro slower if I was you. I am hoping 10mg Lex and 150mg Wellbutrin(for weight loss) will do the trick. Good luck

I have the same side effects and I'm loving this prescription. I started taking 300 xl bropropion on march 13 2017. Today is march 26 and I have lost 10 lbs. I was prescribed this drug for depression and sad. I have noticed that I am able to make better decisions now based on logic instead of emotional blackmail . Trust me when I say users are attracted to the depressed like a fly to poop. Within a week I cleaned house and I am very happy my doctor put me on Bropropion. The only down sides are mild headaches , dry mouth and food I use to love taste funny. But I will take that over the old me anyway . It has truly helped me
