My friend’s father has a Korsakoff’s syndrome and I have to admit that I have never seen her so sad and distracted. I wish I could help her, but I guess in order to do that I have to know a bit more about that condition. Can you tell me what causes it and is there any cure? Thank you.

Korsakoff’s syndrome is all about vitamin B1, especially one in the brain area. Actually, we are talking about the lack of that substance, which causes severe degeneration of the brain. The patient suffers from memory loss, invents new memories, looses interest in things quickly etc. Therapy does help, but only to prevent further brain damage, nothing more, unfortunately.
