Hi! Doing some research I run into one more element of comparison in the Claritin vs. Clarinex discussion. Claritin has an 8 hour "biological half life" while Clarinex has a 27 hour "biological half life" I have also confirmed that in other countries Claritin's recommended dose is 10mg TWICE a day. Therefore, the choice is clear if you want to try it. I have not found any medical advise saying that you will get very sick using Claritin twice a day. If half it's potency is gone in 8 hours, why can you take 10mg every 12 hours and avoid all the misery? That is, if your insurance co. does not want to pay for your Clarinex, which works great. Zyrtec? Useless! Here a copy-and-paste from Wikipedia. Worth reading: "The biological half-life or terminal half-life of a substance is the time it takes for a substance (for example a metabolite, drug, signalling molecule, radioactive nuclide, or other substance) to lose half of its pharmacologic, physiologic, or radiologic activity."
