If you've already consulted with a doctor, and the treatment hasn't resolved the issue, it's essential to follow up with them or see another medical professional for a second opinion. Persistent or unusual discharge from the penis can be a symptom of various conditions, and accurate diagnosis is crucial for appropriate treatment.

Here are some potential causes for penile discharge:

  1. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): Gonorrhea, chlamydia, and trichomoniasis can cause discharge from the penis. Testing for STIs is crucial if you're experiencing symptoms.

  2. Non-Gonococcal Urethritis (NGU): This is an inflammation of the urethra that's not caused by gonorrhea. It can have various causes, including other infections, injuries, or irritants.

  3. Bacterial Infections: Even if it's not a UTI, bacteria can cause infections in the urethra, leading to discharge.

  4. Prostatitis: This is an inflammation or infection of the prostate gland. Chronic prostatitis might not cause fever but can result in varied urinary symptoms, including discharge.

  5. Other Causes: Sometimes, discharge can be related to other issues like trauma, foreign bodies, or even reactions to certain medications or substances.

It's essential to provide the medical professional with as much information as possible, including any sexual activity, other symptoms, the color and consistency of the discharge, and any other relevant details. This information can assist in determining the cause and guiding treatment.

If you're sexually active, it's always good practice to inform your partner(s) and consider abstaining until you've been accurately diagnosed and treated, as some conditions can be transmitted to others.
