had my hemorrhoidectomy 7/1/14. had worst pain for first 2 wks. took pain meds every 4 hrs round the clock. difficulty walking, sitting, even laying down. able to urinate before leaving recovery room. had 1st bm next day after surgery - some pain but not too bad. had lots of swelling of skin tags around anus and that's what was very painful. took colace stool softener twice a day. ate high fiber diet. sat in tub w/very warm water 2x/day. hot showers 3x/day. had bm 1-2x/day. stool always soft. no problems with constipation even before surgery. pain started to get less. after 2nd wk was having 3-5 bm/day. when i have bm i feel several big colonic wave each time. leaves me tired and weak sitting on toilet 10 minutes each time. never really feel i'm emptying my bowels fully with each bm. i feel stool is stuck just inside the anal area. but no matter how hard i push, can't seem to get it all out. my bm always soft and at times not even formed when it goes in toilet. small amounts of bm each time. by 3rd wk, swelling of skin tags gone down by a bunch. pain gone. thought OMG there is light at end of tunnel. i'm starting to feel better. increased my daily activities. began walking on treadmill at gym and outdoors. started running on treadmill. my bottom felt fine. no more feeling like my insides and bottom were going to fall out whenever i would try to walk. now having new issue: having bm accidents. whenever i get the urge to have a bm, can't hold it in. i have to run to the bathroom. sometimes i don't make it to the toilet in time and end up soiling myself. sometimes i make it to the bathroom but still end up soiling myself. this has happened 4-5x now. i'm getting concerned. i'm afraid to leave the house for fear of having a bm accident. if i need to leave the house, i make myself go have bm twice in an hour just so i don't have the feeling of the urge to defecate. even then an hour later i'm having to look for a restroom coz have to go have another bm. need to control this as i need to go back to work. haven't worked for 3.5 wks now. dr told me would take 3 wks to recover. taking longer than that. is anyone having the same experience with poopy accidents? why is this happening this late into the recovery phase? this is the most painful surgery i've had. had 2 children natural childbirth. had episiotomy tear both times. first one repaired. 2nd left to heal on its own. had bunion surgery. those were piece of cake.
