Hi,
I am doing so much better. Back to work. No pain and no more advil. I feel like 90% healed. When I have a BM I now have pressure, almost normal, no pain. Still takes few minutes in the bathroom to wipe, coming out regular but it takes a lot of paper to do the job..lol.
I go back to dr next week for last follow up. So far so good. I dont take any over the counter stuff now. Back to regular diet. So if this works and keeps then away, it was worth it for me.
Hope everyone else is doing good..like following similar stories.

oceanwaters, I am so glad to hear that your surgery went so well! Do you have any pointers for people who are going to go under the knife? IT sounds like you have a very good recovery from surgery so any tricks or tips would be certainly helpful for those of us who are interested in doing it. Thanks!

Hi,
When the dr told me that I needed surgery in two days, I went on the web and almost cried. I almost canceled from the stories on this site. That is one of the reasons I post so people know the other side of this. I wonder if people who do not have complications, probably don't post, so we are just reading people who come to the web for answers.
This is what I did...(I posted from almost day 1 to now if you want to read more detailed..some of it I was on pain meds...lol)
*I was on a CLEAR liquid diet 48 hours before
*Midnight before nothing to eat/drink
*Fleet enema morning of surgery
This cleared me out and then I didn't have to "go" for 2 days after surgery which was good to heal some and not have so much pain.
After surgery:
*I laid in bed and took pain meds most of the first few days. Pain meds helped me sleep some. I took the every 4 hours even if not in pain because I was afraid of the first BM. With the pain meds the first one was bearable. My legs would shake, wiping was the worst.
*I took 2 weeks off of work ..need time to heal
*drank water and took stool softener every day for first week to help. I also drank my soda...lol My diet went back pretty fast but what goes in, must come out sooo...slow in the beginning.
*I don't like sitting in bath but it did help after a BM to ease the stinging that I had then I went right back to bed. After a week, I moved to couch but still in house.
*I gave myself time to heal.
Any questions, ask away. Everyone is different. I am not overweight but don't go to the gym everyday either. My body did fairly good with the surgery. I am going to ask next week if what he did was lazer or did he cut and cauterize it ? I think he cut and cauterized it but just making sure. [/list]

wow, if you can learn anything, learn it from ocean.... thank you again for so much detail in your posts.
i feel like you have a remarkable doctor.
despite me having a thrombosed hemorrhoid, I would have loved to have my doc say... if you can stand it for 1 more day, lets have you drink the fleet stuff... get things cleared out so you don't have so much pain afterwards with that first bm and i think it was VERY smart to put a person on a clear, liquid diet, so bm's are small if anything at all. Maybe I'm an exception because I was suppose to go on vacation the next week and she felt she had no other choice. >:(
i can't complain, i will be 2 weeks post surgery tomorrow and the last 3 days have been pretty pain free with my bowel movements. I'm no longer taking a laxative to keep things going (don't want to get stopped up)...I'm still taking a stool softener though, man...they really do work...keep it soft and easy to pass.
nobody, and i mean nobody should be told that they will be back to normal in 1 week like my doc said. though i feel pretty good back there, it still isn't like normal yet.... i'm expecting atleast 4-8 weeks before things are really functioning like normal, i'm back to working out a lot, etc.
thanks again ocean for your posts. i love hearing from you!

That is a very helpful list and super comprehensive too! What I'd like to know though is I live in a city where bathtubs are rare and a friend is about to undergo this surgery. What do I tell him to do if he can't take a bath? Do you think a sponge bath would be worth it or should he go to the hardware store to find a bucket? :-)
