I too am experiencing post-tonsillectomy taste loss. Everything tastes different, I havedifficulty swallowing, constant bitter taste, and thick mucus constantly. I also have pain in my throat and ears ALL the time.

Well, I finally went for a second opinion and he said that it was def the glossolpharyngeal nerve---responsible for taste, swallowing, and saliva production (ding ding ding) Can't figure out why my original ENT couldn't pinpoint that one. Well, he said that it is rare (again-NOT if there are so many people out there who are experiencing this) but he did say that nerve regeneration takes about 1 1/2 years.

There is no doubt that my taste has gotten better so I am just waiting this one out. He said that it may never regenerate but if it is going to, 1 1/2 years is the magic number. Good luck to you all. I am seeking legal advice currently. All I want is for ENTs to be required to list this as a complication. I know she didn't do it on purpose but they know it's a possibility and they need to tell people!!
