Hello,
I have been on birth control for about a year now- I take the pill every day at the same time. Over the past couple of weeks I have experienced bloating, abdominal pain in the middle of my waist line, gas, cramping, and nausea. I usually get my period on the 11th of every month and I got it at the right time last month, but then I got it AGAIN at the end of the month. And this month it hasn't come and its already 9 days late. I also recently just took a pregnancy test and it was negative. I don't know what is wrong with me- does anyone have any ideas?!?!? Please help.
Thank you

Wow! I am literally experiencing the exact same problems--and very weirded out!

I have been on orthocyclen (the regular strength; not the low dose) for 6 years now, and I have never experienced anything like this--let alone many abnormal period symptoms whatsoever. However, I am currently at the exact half-way point in the blue (active) pills and I just got my period last night. oh wait, actually I did miss a day by accident because I've been doing lots of work--but it's actually very common that I forget to take it at the right time, but that has never been an issue for 6 years and I've been in a steady sexually axctive relationship for nearly all 6 years, and even forgotten 2 nights in a row with no problem. BUT- I have been STRESSED for the past week because I've been writing an important paper for school, and I have had quite a few near anxiety attacks (I'm very high strung). I also have had very little sleep.

The really weird thing is my period is heavier right now than I can even remember--and it's only been 2 weeks since I had it last. I'm also experiencing the worst case of lower-abdominable bloating in my life, to the point where it is painful and tender feeling all the way around to my lower back and I feel like I just gorged myself or something (which I haven't!)

sorry this message is so long. i've been writing a paper...

Please, any ideas at all?

Hi, I had a problem like that a couple months ago with mine. I didnt miss my period but...I had an extra one..lol. I also got very bloated and had pain in my stomach...I'm not really sure what it was but it eventually went away. If yours doesnt go away pretty soon you should probably call your dr. or pill piscriber and ask them about it. Most likely its some sort of hormonal embalance thing. Thats what I figured.

Hopefully that help alittle.

Dancinstar, it sounds like it could be due to stress and missing pills. Just wait it out for a month or so and see what happens. You might need to see a doctor if it continues.

I recently started back up on the pill after I had the Mirena removed., about 3 weeks ago. I too am having very bad cramps in my lower region, which leads to going number 2 alot!!! It only happens about an hour after I take a pill, everyday. I too have taken a pregnancy test which turned out negative. But I am having trouble with a vaginal disharge. No blood seen, just white.. But. They do say that starting the pill can make your body freak out. I wouldnt worry too much about it. Probably just your body adjusting.

Ugh..I feel the exact same way however my period is about a week late. I have never been pregnant so I don't know what it feels like, but I just imagine it would be different. I am so....SO bloated and gassy all the time and sometimes i get sharp pains in my side that are almost crippling when they hit me. I have always had an extremely irregular period even though I'm on birth control and one time I didn't have it for 3 months. I've been late so often in the last 4 years and I'm so sick of worrying about whether or not I'm pregnant *sigh* I just want my period to come and this pain to go away so I can relax. As if work, class, my car, my familiy, my social life, my weight, and my boyfriend are not enough to worry about, lets add this on top aaaaahhhhh! can a girl get a break?!?!?! what is wrong with me??? :'(

Irregular periods is a classic sign of PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) which is basically a hormonal imbalance, but ppl with it often have cysts on their ovaries. I would check with a doctor if I were you. They will ask you a bunch of questions, and maybe book an ultra-sound and some blood tests. It isn't usually dangerous unless not looked after.

I have PCOS, but no cysts. I'm sexually active, and recently went on the pill (a low dose one that is supposed to mimic a natural 28 day cycle) which is supposed to help regulate everything. But so far no results. I haven't had a period this month, I'm burping, gassy, going number two a lot, my abdomen is often in pain, and I've gained a bit of weight (though I'm attributing that to my trip to France....I hope atleast that is why). Its a HUGE PAIN!!! And I'm a little worried...any ideas?? I looked up my symptoms on an online health monitor and it advised me to consider ovarian cancer as a likely cause. But I am in my early 20's. I had an ultrasound a year ago now and it was all normal. Help??

I also have PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome). Besides the outrageous cramping caused by the cysts, the only reason doctors could identify it was because I gained so much weight. I went from 120 pounds to 200 in less than 4 years. A very common side effect of PCOS is something called insulin resistance. Insulin in your body is like a key for sugars, letting the sugars get to where they need to go to give your body energy. So when you eat a carb, those sugars pair with insulin which transport them to where they need to go. When you are insulin resistant, the insulin is working improperly, therefore creating either an influx of sugar or insulin. If you aren't getting sugars, your body thinks it needs more, and you therefore crave carbs. If your body is overcompensating and creating extra insulin, it is also constantly tired from working so hard to absorb sugar. The most common fix is to loose weight, a battle I am fighting now. I've always had really serious cramping, even when I was young, but the weight gain just became outrageous. Be careful underestimating this syndrome, it is very serious and unpleasant.

Hi i've recently started using the birth control pills this month..I'm about a week until my active pills or the pills where your suppose to be getting your period. I've been taking it at the exact time every day but some days il take it probably 20mins late. I've recently got really sick one day for some reason. I had some really terrible abdomen pains and then it lead to feeling like i was about to throw up. I had very bad chest pains and then it led to dizziness. After that, i fainted. I'm a bit worried also because i do become gassy and for some odd reason, I havent been pooping much. Its terrible and i really dont know if this is caused by the pills or is it because i'm becoming really sick. I also been having white discharge if that is normal. But from what i read from you guys, it seems about the same as what i'm feeling.

Hey,
You should look up ovarian cysts, because it is possible you might have one. They can cause a lot of weird things regardimg irregular periods and pevil, abdominal, and lower back pain.
