Hey everyone,

STOP WORRYING. Bloating, headaches, nausea, stomach cramps and random bleeding are ALL side effects of the pill. You're effectively filling your body with loads of extra hormones that wouldn't usually be produced. I've been on Microgynon 30 for nearly 2 years, and although these symptoms go on and off, I have been back to the doctor several times and been told that it's pretty much the short straw of taking strong oral contraception.

If you take the pill correctly, you are over 99% protected. Even if you miss a withdrawal bleed, that's also normal, although if you miss 2 in a row you may want to take a pregnancy test, just to be completely sure - even then, it's unlikely.

Additionally, depending on the strength of your brand, even taking the pill a few hours past or before your usual time won't reduce protection, but will cause stronger side effects. Combined with the stress everyday life and of thinking 'Oh no the pill's failed' plus all those hormones flying about, the symptoms will bother you more and so seem to reoccur.

I used to stress about the pill 'not working' all the time, but the 'failure' stories you hear are usually a case of the woman forgetting to take a pill, or forgetting the rules behind it i.e. watch out for sickness/diarrhoea, certain medicines that reduce effectiveness. For all you ladies suffering side effects, go chill out, have a cup of tea, make yourself comfy or whatever you do to relax and try not to think about the 0.01% chance of failure, but focus on the 99.99% chance of success.

I had an ovarian cyst. That's why I'm taking the birth control. Birth control help it to stop growing and to cause less pain.

Hi. I am currently on Ortho Tri-Cyclen too, a somewhat higher dosage due to horrible cramps i used to get. I have been sick for the past week, and i have been a little stressed. I started my period two days later than normal and, as i usually don't have any, i had terrible cramps this morning when i woke up, almost as bad as they were without my pills. Also, my period has been a bright red, kind of like oxygenated blood...and its been stringy...what does this mean? can any one tell me? I took teo pregnancy tests and they both came back negative but this morning started to make me wonder.

Oh forgot to mention...i have had chest x-rays in the past five days too...and a few other tests. Could i have been pregnant but miscarried in the first week?

This happened with me, and my physician actually said that it indicated that my birth control was no longer effective and that I'd need to switch to a different hormone combination.

I have been taking birth control pills for about 4 years and have almost always been regular with my periods, but the past 3 months I've had no periods at all. No spotting, no nothing. Pregnancy tests are negative. Cramping off & on, tender/painful breasts for about 2 weeks, and I've been very moody. Not sure what's going on!!

I've been having similar problems. I'm 15 years old, 112 pounds, and 5'2. I used to always get my period at the first of every month but now I tend to get it towards the end. I started taking birth control 6 months ago and my mother forgot to get the prescription numerous days in a row, so they told me not to take the pills until I got my next period, but it's been two months and still no period. I've had unbelievable cramps, coming from someone who had to get on the pill in the first place due to cramps so bad that I'd fainted numerous times, but still haven't bled. The pain gets so bad sometimes that I need to sit down and it tends to be under my rib cage, or above my waistline. Occasionally there's a sharp stab of pain in my sides, but I've never had sex, so I know it can't be that I'm pregnant. I've read the answers about the cysts but I don't even think I'm old enough to develop such. Hopefully my period will come soon.

I am experiencing this. I am 2 days late and on the pill. I take it every night before bed not at exact same time. My fiancé said he didn't blow in me at all. And I don't recall him doing so either. I have had many pregnancy symptoms for at least 2 weeks. I took a test 5 days ago and was negative???? Help me, what do you think??

I have the same sort of thing! I have been on the pill for about 2 years and not really ever had an issue with missing a period. This month I completely missed it, and even though when sexually actively I am on the pill and use a condom, I am still worrying that I might be pregnant. I also took two tests and both were negative; but I took the tests in the afternoon and five days into my 7 day break off the pill. Will this effect the results? Please help me
