Hi, I had ACDF surgery 8 weeks ago and now I feel like I traded 1 set of problems for another. Preop I had pain in upper arms, tingling and numbness in both hands. I went through 12 epidural injections before deciding for surgery. I had herniated discs in levels 4/5 and 6/7 repaired. I care for my disabled son with cerebral palsy that is totally dependent on all care. I thought I would be back to normal by now. But I have been referred from my neurosurgeon back to my ortho because an incredible pain in shoulders and burning sensation. My orhtho gave me a cortisone injection a couple of days ago and said it might be 12 months before I am better and referred me for more PT and also said I could now have shoulder problems. I read your post and was curious that it sounded similiar to mine. Did your shoulders problems and more pain start after your ACDF surgery?

ACDF, hi rhondam, um yes ,i have been suffering since my surgery 2008 may, injury date was 2006 oct, the pain did get worse after the op, base of the shoulder blades to the top of my neck base of skull to outer arms an down to my finger tips , it is hard to say if my shoulders would be in this much pain, i have a 6mm tear to 80% of my supraspinatius tendon with a leak an impingement, in the left shoulder,i dont know why we are all in such pain, my guess is because when an impingement happens in the neck it affects everything to do with ur upper extremities, puts pressure on all there,so if you are hurting in pain,an cant move properly it gets weak, nerve damage is serious, i hope you get better ,an do not end up like me or others, it will take awhile so dont push yourself do little each day, i have had injections, acupuncture, hydro therapy doctor after doctor, wants them no more they didnt help me, i really hope you are one of the lucky ones that gets better for your son, hang in there, Deb.
