Hi. I had ACDF and I still feel pain in my shoulders, arms and hands. How normal is that? I think the procedure was unsuccessful. Maybe my recovery will be slow?

Hi. I had ACDF too and I have to say it is all normal to feel pain after the surgery. It is not unusual to experience pain in your shoulders, arms and hands too. This pain is caused by inflammation of the compressed nerve and it will go away when the nerve heals. I have found moist heat very helpful. I also feel numbness in my fingers. My doctor told me there is no reason to be worried, and numbness should gradually go away. I have found out the easiest way to get out of my bed. First I raise my head and then I swing my legs to the floor.
