I feel your pain. I cannot sleep at all, it's the most frustrating feeling ever.. I have been on it for years. I try to fall asleep without taking it first, that doesn't happen very often at all.. My husband recently shared a article about the side offects, it can cause dementia and Alzheimer. So, i decided to stop taking in and try a more natural way of getting to sleep.. So far, nothing is working. I've been only get 1-3 hours of sleep a night at the most. I am trying tart cherry juice, kiwi, and sleepy tea. To be very honest, i think trazodone is addictive, weather it be mentally or physically, i NEED it to sleep. I have not given in yet and am going to try and kick the habbit. I wish you much luck.

I been on Trazodone since 1993 taking a 100mg. You can't take it late at night or it will give you a hung over feeling the next day. I won't take mine pass 11 pm. You need to get at least 8 hours of sleep when taking it as well.

I have been having good results on taking 100mg @ bedtime depending on whether I have something on my mind that's bothering me, then it doesn't work well.

Was prescribed 50 to 100 mg. Trazedone for sleep problems from taking prednisone. Now, almost three months taking Trazedone, scheduled for kidney tests; appears this is destroying kidneys. Outrageous pain; doctor failed to give information about this as a common side effect. Stay away from this poison

I've been taking 50mg of Trazadone for 4 months, med works really well, I sleep wonderfully, only 50mg made me feel super tired everyday, no energy. I cut dose down to 25mg, I sleep great and no longer wake up feeling tired.

I started taking this a couple weeks ago, I was taking Ambrien but my doctor would only give me 5 mg because of my age(70)....When I go to bed I do find my brain has calmed down, I dont have a million things going thru my mind, however it has helped a little with my sleep but not what I was hoping for....I dont know if I am not taking it right, it says take at bedtime but to have a snack, I am not sure what kind of snack to take that doesnt keep you awake....would love any ideas

I haven't taken in 2 years then I just got back on it. I took it for 10 years before that. I stopped taking it because it was a hit or miss deal, 1/3 of the time it didn't work at all. (remember that fiasco over dilantin? Manufacturers were not putting consistent amounts of the drug in the pills. I honestly wonder if that is not the case here)

And again I'm dealing with hit or miss.
One thing that is for certain, some of us have to take it on an empty stomach. If it isn't working when you take it with food, try it on an empty stomach. Right before bed.

I started taking 200mg. Dropped it to 150, since I only need 8 hrs or so.

I've taken I for years and it works for me. But I take a way higher dose than 50mg. I was starting to think it wasn't helping me stay asleep but I found that am premenaposal which interrupted my sleep. I have the pesky hot flashes more under control. I was put on Mirtazapine for sleep and gained 9lbs in 3 weeks, so now I am going back to my trusty trazodone for sleep and going to try to lose the weight I have gained from changing my meds.

From what i have read, it is easy to build up a tolerance for it for some people over a short period. Others its not and works for long periods. I would describe whats happening with you to your doctor who prescribed it to you. They should know best. But also read eating something with it helps it absorb better. Some reports say eating on empty stomach makes you feel real nauseous. So with her being older not sure its the best idea for her. But what im saying is just what ive researched about it. So take it with a grain of salt. Ive heard so much good and so much bad about this drug, im not really sure what to believe. Id ask my physician for the best answers. Only thing i know for sure is smaller doses are for insomnia. Usually 50-100MGS at night. For depression its about triple that taking it a few times during the day. It helps for insomnia the same night you take it. But it takes a few weeks of it in your system to help with depression.
