In the year 2003, asthma caused 12.7 million doctor visits and 4,261 deaths in the USA. This disease is more spread in the developed countries and is connected with nutrition, higher living standard, decreasing physical activity and increased pollution.

A new risk factor for asthma has been found. Researchers have linked junk food with asthma attacks and wheezing problems in children. A research that has been conducted included 1,321 children between the ages of 10 and 12 and showed that children who ate at least one hamburger a week were 75% more likely to have asthma and 100% more likely to have wheezing problems. Higher consumption of hamburgers led to a higher incidence of asthma.

Beside hamburgers, other take away food and soft drinks are also suspected to rise risks of asthma.
