I took it for 5 years after my youngest was born for SVT and in that time lost 49 pounds. Went off it because BP got too low and gained back 70+ pounds. Went back on it a year ago and lost 14 pounds. I am not doubting it could be causing your issues, I have issues with meds too, but for me, it hasn't caused any issues but regulated heart beats.

I wish you luck in finding what works for you. My doctor assures me there are plenty of alternatives if my BP goes too low again so that I can stay on the meds and have a normal life.

I have been taking Atenelol for about 9 years now. The first month that I started taking it I gained at least 25 pounds and my hair started thinning. A couple of years later I started having trouble with anxiety and the doctor prescribed me medication. I never even considered that it could be the Atenelol that is causing all of these problems.

I have been on NILOl for the past 1 year and my BP is back to normal and so is my heart beat. yes the sex drive is very slow and at times borders to impotency but barring this side effect there is no other problem at the present. Should not discontinue this drug without the doctors supervision.

Hi - I've been on atenolol for 3 years. My hair is now very thin in the front, I have NO energy, and I now have tumors on my thyroid and ovary. My feet tingle - I am told lacking B12. My brain is foggy, slep is bad, nightmares - well, I've always had them. I am told it interferes with Zinc absorbtion, B vitamins and messes with your good Cholesterol.

Check out the book: IS YOUR CARDIOLOGIST KILLING YOU - by Sherry Rogers. 2009 book

I want off - but my body falls apart within 15 hours of missing a dose.

Have been on Atenelol for approx 5 years now for high blood pressure (50mg) daily & have NOT had any hair loss, anxiety, sleep disorders, sexual or energy decrease, depression, or any other symptom.
I believe if I do get any symptoms they will be related to my daily life rather than the Atenelol.
I am 54, had a hysterectomy @ 50, have 3 dogs, have a full time job.......
When I DO have a sleep problem---it's because one of the dogs has to go out & pee @ 3am.
My hair is a little drier being in menopause but I use SUNSILK in the pink bottle & shampoo & condition daily. It helps.
Being a nurse, I realize there are SO MANY depressed people , & they are on meds for it. Meds for depression & thyroid for instance can contribute to hair loss. Many depressed people have anxiety.
Always, with any meds that aren't agreeing with you--contact your physician.

I am not depressed and Atenolol does indeed have side affects. I am glad you can take it and don't have any. I have lost hair since taking the beta blocker. This is a known side affect. I'm sorry, but you sound like we are all using the beta blocker as a crutch for our problems. They are real. And it really stinks when dr's and nurses don't believe us.

Everyone tolerates drugs differently.

I too have been on atenelol for 2 years and thought I was going crazy about my hair falling out. I was so relieved to hear all the stories that this is happening to other people. I recently went to a dermotoligist and he put me on aldactone for the hair loss. It only took him looking at the medication I take in order to tell me what the problem was. I do not know if it is going to work but I am hopeful. I cannot lose anymore hair or I am going to be bald.
