Hello, I am 35 years old and I have been diagnosed with MS. First symptom I have had was blurry vision. Fortunately, that lasted for a short period of time, my eyesight then went back to normal. Now I am experiencing some other symptoms, but nothing including my eyes. Doctor prescribed me Cytoxan. I used Imuran before and I would like to know a bit about Azahioprine (Imuran) vs cyclophosphamide (Cytoxan).

Both Imuran and Cytoxan belong to a group of imunosupressive medicaments. They are used in the therapies that deal with autoimmune conditions including MS. Cytoxan in almost 80 of MS patients brings improvement. Unfortunately, it does have some negative side effects, one of those being suppression of bone marrow with possible leucopenia, anemia and thrombocytopenia. Imuran also has similar effects on bone marrow, but it could also cause nausea, vomiting, liver damage. It must not be used in pregnancy because of its mutagen effect.
