I started on Levora a year ago, and since being on the pill I've had a yeast infection about every other month. I went to my doctor and she kind of blew it off as well, but told me it would probably help to get on a pill with a lower hormone dose.
Here is a website with the hormone levels of different birth control pills. I'm now on Levlite® and I havn't had issues with yeast.

For 9 years I was taking birth control and getting chronic yeast infection. My Obgyn at the time had me tested for diabetes because of the high frequency.luckly that was not it. So I lived with the reoccurring infection treating them with Diflucan and sometimes over the counter meds. 6 months b/f my husband and I wanted to get prego I stopped the BC and continued to be off of it for 28 months. During that time no yeast infections! Just recently after deciding to go back on BC I started getting yeast infections again. I finally made the corrolation of BC and yeast infections and after reading other womens posts about it- I see I'm not the only one. Goodbye Birth Control! I am done with getting reoccurring yeast infections!!!

ladies, same problem here! I re-started my pills 4 months ago (ortho lo), and at week 1 got an east infection! tried EVERYTHING to make it go away, and when it did, it would be back a couple of days later. It irritated the hell out of me and just made me plain miserable for 4 months!! I could not figure out what was wrong, since years ago i was taking the same pills and had no problems with east infections! But recently i made a connection to the pill, since the east infection would go away during the week of sugar pills (with no hormones), which made no sense as usually the period would make the infection worse (!!!), and would come back on week one of the new pack! So i ditched the pills right away, and I already feel much better! Every doctor I ever asked about the pills said that it is quazi impossible that east infections would be related to BC pills, but we are many with this problem!!! And that makes me believe that doctors know nothing about the effects of the pills (well except for the obvious - contraception), and that how badly the pills screw with our systems. I am done with pills! never again i will go through the excrutiating torture of east infections, that male doctors just don't comprehend due to their physiology.

It's common knowledge that the pill causes yeast infections so i don't know why your doctors are lying to u. i started the pill to help control my heavy periods so i can have an operation. the first thing i said to my doctor was i'm gonna get a yeast infection arent i and she said yes u probably are--and i did.

I actually went from a change in my birth controls and I was actually on the shot for a year until I decided to change to the pill. The reason that I changed was that the shot screwed up my periods and that i was very hormonal, that is why i am on the pill. So far I just finished my first back and I suddenly have a yeast infection... I usually got yeast infections quite often on the shot but they went away after awhile. But on the pill I notice that I got the infection when I started my period and that its hard to keep it down there not to itch... it also smells weird. I don't have a std and I am not pregnant, I am pretty sure the birth control changes your hormonal balance to where you will definitely get a yeast infection. Treatment is easy loose  pants, cotton underwear, clean down there every time you go and every morning and night, and eating yogurt is the best way to go. Also stay away from scented pads and perfumes.

Same problem here. My question to everyone would be: Which pill are you taking? I have been on the pill in the past and have never suffered from any side effects. This is a new type I am trying called Sprintec generic for Ortho Tri-Cyclen. If anyone who posted a comment is taking this pill let me know.

I have also had the same issue that all of you girls have had with recurring yeast infections. And as soon as I stop all BC pills I have been prescribed I immediately stop getting the yeast infections. I had the same thing happen with more then one Doctor where they claimed it was highly unlikely to be caused by BC pills. Therefore they tried me on several different kinds even low dose ones like Alesse. The issue with the yeast infections did not stop and some of them also made me sick on a daily basis. I did my own research and found that it can be the estrogen in some pills do not react well with some girls. So I decided to try some BC without estrogen (I was losning all hope atthis point and willing to try anything). The first being the Depo shot. I had absolutely no bad side effects. I did not have my menstrual cycle for the entire year that I was on it (which was lovely!). I also did not have one yeast infection. I am now off of it because it's not the best thing for you and your bones so I did not want to be on it longer then a year. I have now told my new Doctor today about how I want a pill that is estrogen free and the reason why. He also said unlikely but he will look around for the different kinds if that is what I am asking. I have looked myself already and found some proestrogen-only-pills (POP) which are Errin, Micronor, Nora-BE, Nor-QD and some IUD's. I'm not saying this is the case for everyone but it sure helped me. Good Luck Ladies!

I have experienced many of the issues being talked about, too :(! I started birth control a little over a month ago, and after the first week into my second pack I contracted a yeast infection along with a UTI. I talked to my doctor who told me if I wasn't sexually active, it is most likely a yeast infection. She also seemed unsurprised when I told her I was on birth control, and she said it might be a cause due to the hormone changes. Reading on the internet, I also read that birth control weakens your immune system. As someone who doesn't get sick very often, I'm starting to notice how easy it has been for me to feel sick besides infections (sore throat, cold).

To the post above me: I am on tri-sprintec and have had this problem. I am going to start skipping the birth control pills and see if that makes a difference: Hope this helps!

Hey guys!

One of the main causes of a yeast infection can be a raise in estrogen levels (which is part of what your birth control does) All you need to do is go see your doc and let them know the issue. There are some very low estrogen birth controls that will usually not cause this issue as often in most women.

In the mean time, eat lots of yogurt, take some acidophillus, and medicate your "area" til the infection is gone. No one wants that coming back or getting worse.

I am on ortho tri cyclen lo and have had constant yeast infections for a year. I have had two female gyno's tell me that it is unrelated to the pill, but I doubt it. I tried everything from diet change to hypo-allergenic everything. Over-the-counter creams provide no relief.
