I haven't taken birth control pills in years because my boyfriend had a vasectomy. My period is to begin the first day of a historical reenactment I can't get out of. My first two days are heavy. Can I begin taking the pill now (1 week after my last period) and postpone my period?

Yes, you can certainly do that.
You may still have some spotting, or you could have bleeding anyway, but it is worth a try!
