So I just finished my 3rd pack of birth control pills. I am on one that you take for 21 days then you don't take any pills for 7 days then continue taking more pills after the 7th day. My boyfriend and I are sexually active. We always use a condom and usually spermicide, and of course I am on the pill. I haven't missed any pills. The first month I was on the pill I didn't have a period at all...just light bloody discharge. Then the second month I had my period correctly during the 7 days you don't take the pill which is the correct time. So, coming up to the end of my third pack, 4 or 5 days before my 7 day break was due, I had my period. Still light, but yes a period. My boyfriend and I never had unprotected sex... and we never had sex when I wasn't on the pill. SO what is going on with my body? Is it me still getting used to the pill? Or what? Please help :)

It's considered more or less common that your body needs about three months to get used to the hormones from the pill which means that during this period it is almost expected that you will experience breakthrough bleeding/ spotting or change in your period. What is very important is for you to take the pill as punctual as you can each day (maximum of half an hour difference), because these small changes when you are little late for the pill can cause problems with irregular bleeding.
