Ever since I started menstruating at the age of 13 (am 23 now), I have had an irregular menstrual cycle. Due to some personal issues, I've never been able to go see a GYN to find out why my periods are irregular. Back in February of this year, however, I had a period that lasted about a week and a half or two weeks, whereas my periods usually only last anywhere from four to five days, sometimes six. (As far as the amount of blood that was discharged, it was normal for me.) In March, my period returned to somewhat normal. It lasted about a week. But at the end of June, I noticed that there was some blood on my underwear. The trouble is, if it was my period, it only lasted one day. I mean, I have had "spotting" in the past, which is usually a sign that my period will start in the next day or so. I've never had this problem before, though, and it's odd in the length just like how my period was in February.

At the beginning of July, I also lost my virginity to my boyfriend. Being that it was my first time having intercourse, I did bleed but not that heavily. The following week, I also bled again after intercourse. Both times the bleeding took a few days to stop but weren't that heavy. To my knowledge, I also didn't bleed at all in the following few weeks.

Now, my boyfriend and I also had not had intercourses for long sessions, even though later on we went at faster paces. This past week, however, my boyfriend and I started to have sex more frequently, for longer sessions, and faster, more intense paces. When we first initiate intercourse, it is still painful and awkward for me, but the feeling subsides after awhile. (Other than that lately, I haven't had a lot of pain, just a little bit of pain here and there and some awkwardness. ) On Wednesday, my vagina was feeling irritated towards the end of our session, so my boyfriend and I stopped. The following day, I only had a little bit of pain.

The thing is, I also bled quite a bit during and after sex that day. And I'm still bleeding today, but the bleeding hasn't been heavy, nor constant.
It has me concerned because I also started my period almost two Sundays ago right before I went on vacation for a week. (My period skipped one day.) But it had pretty much dried up by the time my boyfriend and I had intercourse. Then again, my period could have skipped another day and returned on Thursday, the last time that I had sex, which really concerns me because then my period will have been going on for almost two weeks a la February. The bleeding during and after sex could have been from friction caused by condom that he used on my vaginal walls, or further tears in the leftovers of the hymen. But still, I've been bleeding for too long. So, I decided that I am going to see the GYN as soon as possible because of how my periods have been this year, plus with this situation regarding the bleeding.

My boyfriend has been tested for STDs, and his results came back negative.

Any thoughts on what could be the cause(s)?

Thanks for any help in advance. :-D

This post is old, so instead of listing all the possible causes I am just going to post the medical term for what happened. When you bleed during or after sex it is called "post coital bleeding" Anyone experiencing those symptoms should look up the causes for PCB on medical websites. There are many possible causes, and if it happens multiple times you really need to see a GYN soon.
