Be calm!
With certain types of birth control, this type of bleeding is normal in the first few months. My fiance has similar symptoms and she has been on Junel for over a year. Just some food for thought.
With that soothe to your worried curiosity, it may still be a good idea to take a home pregnancy test, just in case.

Hi all!  I'm new to this website and noticed this subject while looking for something else.  While I know this subject is well over a year old, I just wanted to say that I had the same issues for years after I had my first child.  With him, I found out that I a disorder that keeps my pelvis from widening enough to allow for natural child birth which caused me to have a c-section.  It took me a few years to realize that it would only happen in between periods if I lifted something too heavy or did something too strenuous for my lower stomach muscles like standing too long on a bare floor, for instance.  Later, I found out that scar tissue had taken over my pelvic area, attaching itself to part of my abdominal wall, my colon, and my bladder.  Before I started having children, I was prone to pelvic inflammation and later diagnosed with pelvic inflammatory disorder (PID).  It's where all or some of the organs in your pelvis are inflammed or swollen and all other tests are normal and they can't figure out why your swollen.  This would cause me severe abdominal pain and then the discharge with no smell when the swelling would go down.  The research I did then, said that the more often the swelling occurs, the more likely you are to have a hysterectomy.  Well, PID plus all the surgeries I have had led to scar tissue forming and taking over a good portion of my reproductive organs.  I eventually had to have a hysterectomy but was left with one ovary that wasn't affected by the scar tissue.  I'm not saying that this is the definitive answer to all of you ladies' problem, but I hope it might help with some of you.  I would also suggest that ALL of you get checked for endometriosus as well, as one of the other responses suggested.  I was having severe bleeding with my periods from day one and excruciating pain to the point that I would pass out from the excessive loss of blood in a short period of time.  I was checked twice for endometriosus-once when I was in high school and again after I had my first child, but was told that I didn't have it and that they didn't know what the problem was.  Repeated doctors visits for unexplainable back pain led to frustration because the they couldn't figure out why I was in pain and I was even told it was because I was overweight.  It took eight years to find out that all of these problems were from an extreme case of scar tissue.  It was even so bad that my OB/GYN couldn't tie my tubes (which was not an option for me) becasue he couldn't get through the tissue, after I had my twins.  While it may seem heartbreaking, depressing, and frustrating to be told things that make no sense and to keep getting the same old "We can't find anything wrong" speech, DO NOT GIVE UP!!!  There is an explanation and if it seems like there isn't, hit the web!!  Do your research and demand a second opinion and to see a specialist if you can afford it.  These people do not understand how much this can affect our quality of life and it's your body and your life.  You have the right to keep looking until the answer is found!  EVEN IF IT TAKES YEARS!!  I used to have an open prescription for 800 mg of ibuprofen when the pain was almost constant for years, so I know what some of you are going through.  Just keep your outlook positive and pray to GOD for an answer or the strength to get through each episode.

Okay, this is really odd to say but I am not even past the age of 18 and am having something like this happen. I am really worried but I am also just in general, a paranoid chika. Anyways, I know it can't be due to birth control nor pregnancy cause I can swear to anything, I have done nothing like that ever and I have had my birth control for a couple of months now. It is not a clear discharge or anything but completely a brownish blackish stain on my under wear. For a bit, sense it occurred after the period, I thought it might just have been something that can happen. It stopped for a while but now is persisting. I really have no idea what it is and am really nervous.

I've been having the exact same problems! It started out with an abnormal charge in my usual discharge, I noticed I was experiencing more clear or creamy/white discharge; at first I dismissed it as ovulation fluids, but it just became more frequent and higher in quantities. I was on the pill for over 6 months but I got off it and switched to condoms because I didn't feel very well while on it. about a year later I would notice that during my ovulation I would have cramping and my period was getting heavy. Finally about a month ago I had exactly what you described, VERY dark brown discharge with BLACk gritty little clumps instead of a normal period! 5 days later, with spotty on-off bleeding and just streaks of dark brown and black, I'm having camps on my sides, more so on the right. Pregnancy test was Negative, but my bf rushed me to the ER because back in April I had an ectopic pregnancy that wasn't caught until it was too late and fatal, so we are extra cautious about one sided abdominal pain.

The ER just said it looked like normal discharge that was extremely old blood and couldn't figure out what was causing the anomaly. I contacted a retired surgical nurse and we figured out that it was Endomeatriosis, just by the blood color, quality, tenderness, pain, the past problem getting pregnant, and soreness during sex. The only definite way is to get a laproscopic exam, even if it's diagnosed and removed there's no cure for it. Being a Personal Massage Therapist and Professional Reflexologist, (Having NO insurance myself) I did not want to go under the knife again, i worked some gentle myofascial release on my abdomen. Reflexology showed that the common sites for endomeatriosis such as the rectum, bladder, and ovary was extremely sore to touch and congested; After a day of Reflexology treatment and Myofascial Massage, my period is finally starting after 6 days and the cramps are pretty sever with lots of blood cot but at least there's a flow now and no more dark streaking.

Rectovaginal fistula Filed under: Women's Health
A rectovaginal fistula is an abnormal connection between the lower portion of your large intestine — your rectum — and your vagina. Contents of your bowel can leak through the fistula, meaning you might pass gas or stool through your vagina.

I've had those same symptoms, and finally went to the gyno. to check it out.  He said that it was my body trying to have a period, and to not be alarmed by it. (I'm on low dose birth control pills.) Several months after that I began having severe pelvic pain on the right side by my ovary, as well as nausea and weakness. I ended up having investigational lap surgery for it, and he found endometriosis, an ovary stuck behind my uterus by an adhesion, and a small fibroid.  He removed as much endo. as possible, but didn't remove the adhesion or fibroid! I was very disappointed, but it has been 3 months since the surgery and I am pain free.
