I was on the birthcontrol Ovral for about 2 years. One year ago I discovered by pap spear that I had HPV. I had surgery and removed that and have been having normal pap smears for the past year. Recently my doctor said that I should try the Lo-Ovral. I was fine with that idea, because I am always quite hormonal (mood swings, headaches, and such) I am on my 3rd week of the Lo-Ovral and am experiencing at first light brown discharge, bright red blood, and now it is a thick black discharge (almost clot like) It is a little bit heavy, not comfortable just using a liner. So, I have been wearing a pad. Is this normal because of the hormone difference in the birth control? How long will this last?

Hi! I had sexual problems with the first birth control pills my doc prescribed to me. I won’t be naming the pills since the names and brands differ from one country to another.
For a few months I have been experiencing very low sexual drive that both me and my boyfriend found odd. Also, my vagina was constantly dry, so we always made jokes about me becoming menopausal. Since I knew these symptoms appear in menopause due to low estrogen levels, I thought that the problem may be hormonal and I suspected my Birth control pills. I went back to my gynecologist and she switched me to another brand, I suppose with higher levels of hormone (who knows).
For two months I had problems with breakthrough bleeding, which was so annoying, I spoke to the gyn again and she said it must be like that until my body gets used to a new hormonal level. So, there you are! You could be going through the same thing as well!
