I'm 21 years old, I've had a fairly normal period all my life. I'm not on birth control. There is a high risk of cancer for me in my family and my doctor has thought I had cervical dysplecia (I'm not sure how to spell it.)

For about the past 4 months my period has been a very dark brown color. Last month I was have severe pain in my abdomin and throwing up around the time of my period. It's about time for my period, and I'm not feeling very well again. Should this be concerning?

It's almost time (in about 2-3 months) for my next pap... but I'm really not eager to rush it.

Why do you fear your pap smears? They can only do good for you. If you have a histriy of cancer in your family, having frequent pap smears is the only thing that can help you realize you have developed cancerous cells and enable you to have them treated.

You probably know some things about both cancer and cervical dysplasia now considering you are prone to it, so you are aware that sooner you have them diagnosed, the better chances of having them successfully treated and cured.

If found out in time, the rate of clearing cervical cancer is 100%.

Do you smoke? Chemicals produced from tobacco have been found in cells of women who suffered from cervical dysplasia. There are other risks that make you more prone to CD. These are having multiple sex partners, engaging in sexual activities before the age of 18, HPV and HIV infections, use of birth control pills, etc

As for your nausea nd vomiting around periods, I won’t say it is normal but many girls experience such symptoms. It doesn’t have to mean anything. While some girls have cramps and abdominal pain, other feels dizzy, nauseous, suffer from diarrheas, etc. This is simply PMS. However, make sure you mention this to your gynecologist during your next follow-up.

I don't fear them at all. I'm a college student and money is short, so I generally follow the year or 6 month policy as the doctor tells me. I don't smoke either.
