I am 5 days post op 50 yr old male from my 3 level fusion with cadaver parts. When I got out of surgery, all I remember was waking up in my hospital room with no pain asking the doctor did you do the surgery and did it go ok. I did not remember waking up in the recovery room but I was told by the nurse that I was the perfect patient requesting no pain meds and had no complaints/requests. While conversing with my wife after 10 minutes in my hospital room, telling her how pain free I felt, just my throat hurt bad when swallowing, I suddenly could not speak and remember my wife coming closer to my face asking me what is wrong and then I went unconscious. My wife panic and ran down hallway looking for a nurse to come find out what was wrong with me. As my wife stood there, the nurse called a CODE BLUE and my wife watched as the team responded pumping medicine into me trying to revive me. My pulse dropped and they initially could not find one and my bp dropped. A social worker escorted my wife out of the room down the hallway while they continued to work on me. My wife said I was as white as a sheep and my eyes rolled back. Well, I finally awoke in ICU and do not remember a thing and they ran all types of test to try determine why I CODED. No answers and I walked out the hospital the following day and I am recovering at home with little pain and an uncomfortable neck brace that I am suppose to wear for four weeks. I had no heart attack or stroke. First time this happened to me and this is my fourth surgery in seven years. I hope this fusion solves my right arm numbness and neck pain. I am crossing my fingers thanking my lucky stars that I made it home alive.
