I have been on Celexa for over 12 years for bipolar disorder but over the last year noticed severe anxiety, heart palpitations and discovered I have something called Long QT which is an irregular heart beat due to celexa. In fact I was told nobody should be taking 40mg and the highest dose they should be taking on celexa is 20mg. I've been on 20mg for the past six years but suddenly started feeling side effects which I never had before. Sweating, heart palps, high blood pressure, anxiety and panic attacks through the roof for no reason. Not to mention I have gained 92lbs in 12 years on Celexa and no matter how much exercising or proper eating I cannot lose weight. I'm going to give Wellbutrin a try but all your negative feelings have me running scared. Has anyone had a positive experience switching from Celexa? For me going on Celexa took at least 2 months before I felt normal. I know I will need to give Wellbutrin a try. On Celexa I feel normal, not foggy and even happy. But I'm falling asleep talking to people, have no energy and well sex is once in a blue moon. Also does anyone have any advice on if Wellbutrin makes you sleepy. I have sleep apnea and that worries me too.

I just switched from celexa to Wellbutrin. Started celexa 20mg for severe anxiety. Used it for a month and 1/2. Felt better but still felt anxious about silly things. Doc bumped me to 40mg. 2 months later, felt good but gained weight, and had difficulty ejaculating. Was able to keep and maintain erection but it took way too long to finally climax. Also lowered libido.

The last straw was celexa lessening the effects of marijuana. Celexa can lessen the effects of several drugs, so I heard. Over time, months, it caused me to not be able to get high. I’m a causal marijuana user. Only use it once or twice per month in social occasions. So it wasn’t because I developed a tolerance. So I immediately started to wean off celexa cutting my pills in half.

Met with doc, switched to Wellbutrin. She said I can simply stop celexa and use Wellbutrin instead. Or if I want to avoid side effects, continue using celexa for 2 weeks with low doses. 20mg for 1 week. Then 10mg for another. While also taking Wellbutrin 100mg.

I decided to just stop celexa altogether. Before meeting with my doc I was already weaning myself off so I simply discontinued celexa. I was already experiencing withdrawals for a week anyway; fatigued, headaches, nausea, muscle aches.

First day of Wellbutrin, I felt hyper but good. I was hyperactive. Made the mistake of taking it as soon as I got it, 8pm. First night, I had trouble sleeping. Had to use Benadryl to help me sleep. Today is the 2nd day. I scaled back the pill time a bit to 2pm. I’m currently typing this at 3:30am because I can’t sleep. I just took some Benadryl again. I still feel withdraws but only minor headaches and muscle aches from stopping celexa. But I feel ok except not being able to sleep. Gonna take it in the morning. I’m gonna need it to wake me up!

I was in 20 mg celexa, got pregnant, and they told me to go off celexa, and put me on Wellbutrin. This transition has been just terrible-as you described, the moodiness, the anger, jumpiness-I feel for you, because celexa was great. This transition makes you feel like you don’t know yourself anymore. I am two weeks in...Hope you are doing better.

Please do not stop it abruptly you need to wean off it, so your body adjusts to it. I'm sure your psychiatrist or general Dr. told you this. I have just switched to bupropion as well bc I'm tired of the weight gain, sexual side effects. I wish you luck w the Wellbutrin, take care. ;)
