You probably weren't actually "late on your period". You may have instead had an anovulatory cycle or delayed ovulation. This can be caused by stress, diet, or a million other things. If you're just counting the days you actually don't know when you are "late" on your period because you simply don't know when you ovulated. If you want to know when you ovulate, take your temperature (by mouth like normal) every morning when you first wake up before getting out of bed. You should see a shift in temperature to a few tenths of a degree to a degree higher once you've ovulated and it will maintain that temperature until your period.
If you do this you never have to worry about a "late" period again because you'll know if and when you've ovulated so you will have a true understanding of when your period should really come. Like I said, most likely you had a delayed ovulation and all that cervical mucus is likely due to a large amount of estrogen building up while your body was trying to ovulate. You were probably fertile/ovulating at the time of that discharge. If your period occurred 2 weeks after that event, well, now you know.
