So there is very little info about situactions when you have the case of diarrhea and take birth control.  I am currently taking Generes FE chewable birth control pill. I always take mine at 9 pm. Yesterda had a great night with friends ate some bad food but didnt feel sick til the next morning. Bf and I had relations that night (been on bc for 8 months) the following morning around 9:30am had the bad case of watery diarrhea. My question is do I need to take the MAP ? I called a pharmacist and she claimed No bc the pill was absorbed within 3 hours and didnt have diarrhea within that time period.  Today I continued to take my BC as usual.  But I am having second thoughts and wondering if I should take the MAP regardless? I just felt I might of flushed out the pill or maybe all the fast food and beer I had.  Any thoughts ??

Hello Juliana,

given you've been on the birth control pill for 8 months, and especially if you took them regularly during the whole time, chances are very good that you were protected from pregnancy by the pills you took before that single one you had diarrhea afterward. The hormones from the pill prevent your ovaries from releasing the fertile eggs – this was already done by all the pills you took so far and even if the last pill you took before diarrhea ‘went away’ with the rest of your stomach content – that one pill alone isn’t enough to trigger you to ovulate and for your partner’s sperm to still be viable. So, all and all, chances are you were protected from pregnancy and morning after pill might be just overkill, but then again, the decision is up to you.

Wish you all the best,

Nicole
