I am also in great discomfort. Espeically the 45min drive home. I just emailed my Dr. for a pain meds so hopefully it'll be approved. I want to be hopeful that this will be helpful however it sounds like a reocuuring problem so I should just have left it ALONE.

Hi guy's I had my banding done in 15th march and oh my lord that is pain. I was feeling pain most parts of the days and waking at night feeling like I suddenly needed bm and that was extra pain without anything really coming out and wanting to put my fist through the bathroom tiles just to distract the pain from my behind. So sleeping has not really been good, as for how many bands I had done I am not sure but the following day one of my bands came off when cleaning.

I have a few questions, mine where stage 2 and only came out after bm and after few hours they would go back on there own but since having the banding done they have not retreated and stayed outside since, is this the same with most?

They have also grew yellow kind of blisters on top and look like they are ready to burst and I am constantly staining underwear with blood and mucus as always weeping anyone the same 5 days after?

Also my letter stated I was going to recieve local anistetic for this and I never recieved it they just went ahead without anything and never gave me any pain relief for going home anyone the same? should state I am in the uk.

thanks

Ok I so wish I had read all this before my doc visit. I went in for an exam and he said lets take a look oh yea lets band you and he did! I got 2 done and told this man I had a very important job interview in 2 days and he said I would be fine. Fine? my hind foot! It was done 10 days ago and I am still in pain. I couldn't hardly pee for a couple of days and called in (as my paper said to) and was told this isn't related to the banding. Well then why is it listed on my after care paperwork? I've taken Vicodin no help, Tylenlol 3 no help, Motrin no help, sitz baths no help! Ice pack seems to do the most help. I can't sit stand or lay comfortable at all. I would never do this again or recommend it to anyone! I feel such pain in my tailbone like I broke it or something. I am suppose to return in a few days for a colonoscopy but there is NO WAY I can handle that right now. And as for the job interview I went and was in such pain I don't hardly remember answering any questions and haven't heard back yet on this but would guess I didnt impress them much and won't. I'd advise anyone looking into doing this to really look into all the side effects and consider all options first. It is not as wonderful easy as they make it out to be. Good luck and anyone with suggestions to help her please fell free to speak up or share your experience and how long before I feel normal again!

I had a colonoscopy on Wednesday May 11th I got home about 12:30 PM. My doctor told me he put three bands on. By 1:30PM my first band fell off. I was horrified that it fell off so soon because of the pain I was having. The mere thought that I went through it for nothing infuriated me. I called my doctor and they told me it would be fine because there were 2 more bands in place. I woke up Thursday morning feeling like I had to have a bowel movement. When I went to the bathroom I discovered that the other 2 bands also came off. By now I am seeing red!!!! Did I really go through this all for nothing???? I did pass something that could have been the hemrroids (I think). I had to go to the hospital that day so I went to talk to my doctor about this and I was told that they have never had anyone lose all of the bands in less than 24hrs. I still can not have a bowel movement and the pain I am experiancing is that of hemrroids and menstral cramps times 1000!!!!! This is by far the worst thing I have ever endured. Can someone PLEASE tell me how long this lasts? I am also wondering how long should I go without a bowel movement before I should be concerned? I have read that banding can cause obstruction of the bowel. I am so bloated that I look like I am 3 months pregnant. I would NEVER recommend this procedure to anyone!!!!!

I had the Banding Procedure done yesterday, it was not pleasant. I only had 2 small hemorrhoids, but it was still very painful. I didn't get any anesthesia, but it sure would have been nice. The whole procedure took only a minute for the 2, the thing that hurt was the anoscope, the banding itself wasn't painful at all. Soon as I got home I took 3 advils, every 4 hours. This morning my first bowel movement wasn't painful, more discomforting, and currently it feels as if I have to have a bowel movement, and there's heavy gas pressure at the moment. I wonder if I really am constipated... but I don't want to strain at all. See how the next few days go, I hope the hemorrhoids fall off either tonight or tomorrow.

This message is primarily for those of you who have found this discussion prior to having the procedure done.  This is a warning to you!  Although I assume that the vast majority of people who get banded have few issues, there are certainly some of us (and most who have posted to this discussion) that have gotten absolutely brutalized by this.  So my advice to you is make sure that you can clear anything else on your schedule (like work, for example) for an indefinite number of days following the procedure, just in case things don't go as the doctor has led you to believe they will.  Believe me, if you are in as much pain as I am, you're not going to want to do anything or go anywhere except curl up in your home and pray that somehow, sometime, the pain will go away.  Insist that the doctor write you a prescription for a pain killer preemptively, or at least make sure you can get it if you find you need it the next day.  Also make sure you have a stool softener on hand, because you do not want to get constipated or otherwise have hard stools, as it hurts enough to have a BM as it is.  Even just trying to pass gas hurts!

I had two bands put on three days ago and so far no end in sight to the pain.  I received no anesthetic during or after and was merely told that the initial pain would subside in an hour and I would be a little sore for up to a week.  Go right ahead and go about your business as usual, it'll be no problem (hah!).  No other instructions.  Called the next day after not sleeping at all that night and told them I was dying.  Got a prescription for Percocet, which helps but tends to constipate you which is the last thing you want.  The only complete, short-term relief I have gotten is taking Percocet with alcohol, which of course is not recommended.  But that's the only thing that has worked for me up to this point.  I'll keep you posted.  Hope this will help some of you.

Hello, new to this forum! First of all, sorry to resurrect such an old thread. I sure wish I'd seen this topic before I had 3 bands put on last Tuesday (8th). The following 24 hours were absolutely horrific and it wasn't until taking both ibuprofen & cocodamol that I felt any relief. Six days later and I'm still taking the cocodamols, praying to god these little blighters drop off soon. I would personally never have this procedure done again but that is because I have experienced no doubt the worst it has to offer. I imagine there are many people who have very little pain but you don't hear about these cases. I only searched the internet because of the pain I was in & found this thread with comments from those who've had similar experiences.

If you're in pain and haven't yet, TAKE A VERY HOT BATH!! The relief was immediate and nearly complete. the relief lasted long enough to get my sanity back.

I had 2 banded today while I was in for a colonoscopy . About 3 hours after waking up the discomfort became significant so i took some of the prescribed pain meds and a HOT bath. I didn't have the intense pain some have described here. More like VERY uncomfortable case of constipation. almost like a foreign object is lodged in your lower colon, which very well may be the case. The degree of pain/discomfort is subjective of course. I'm not sure if someone else would consider mine severe but I would call it highly uncomfortable and irritating. I've had no problem uninating as some have said. I'm not sure how much it matters but I'm 41 years old and in otherwise good health.

No BM yet. Not looking forward to it. I;m also taking metamucel to help soften the blow, so to speak. I'd absolutely get a script for antibiotics and pain meds. Oh and try a hot bath like I said. It was a big help for me.

I had 4 bandings done one week ago today. I was sedated by IV for the procedure (a first for me) which was really nice because I don't remember a thing. What started as a colonoscopy, ended in them banding 4 hemorrhoids, which I knew was a possibility going into the procedure. I have read in many places that most doctors won't do more than 1 or 2 at a time because of the pain, but I believe if they only did two, I would never have gone back to get the others done. Better to suffer just once in my opinion.

The doctor said that I would feel minor discomfort after the procedure, this was an understatement. The aftermath following the procedure was probably the most painful thing that I have ever gone through in my entire 30 years, but if it fixes the problem, the week of awful pain will be well worth it.

The procedure happened on a Friday morning, afterwards, I felt pressure in my abdomen and a feeling like I needed "to go". I went home and slept most of the day and the real pain began that night.

Saturday was horrific; I took 2 Vicodin every 3 hours in addition to 3 Motrin every 6 hours. I found that a heating pad between my legs while lying down was the most comfortable position. I stayed in the fetal position all day, praying the paid would decrease. It didn't.

Sunday was just as bad as Saturday. Very little sleep meant that I was exhausted and in great pain. I called the doctor and they said all they could do was increase my Vicodin dose, which I didn't want because it was making me nauseous. I asked for a numbing cream because the outside of my anus was KILLING me and they prescribed Lidocain, which I think helped a lot. I just applied it to the outside of my rectum and a little bit inside as far as I could get my smallest finger inside (not recommended for internal use), and it helped a bit, or maybe I just hoped it did.

Monday I went into work late because I was told by the doctor that I should be back to my normal schedule right away. I went in to work around 11am and after a BM at 3pm, I had to leave because of the pain. I went home and took a hot salt bath and that helped a lot. I didn't have any pain in the bath.

Tuesday I had scheduled a work meeting to be held in my building (convenient but didn't plan it this way because of the surgery) and while I was in pain in the morning, it subsided pretty quickly after I took 2 Vicodin and stayed seated. I felt a little better in the afternoon so I went to work but quickly realized that I shouldn't be on my feet once there. I spent the rest of the work day at my desk.

Wednesday was my first full day back at work and I felt a little better although I still had to take Vicodin the night before to sleep.

Thursday was a little better than Wednesday and the first day that I made it through the day without pain killers, that night, I tried falling asleep naturally but that didn't really work so I took only 1 Vicodin and slept intermittently.

Today is Friday and I feel ok, still soreness and a little pain. I had my first normal BM without a lot of pain so to me, things are looking up! I also do not have the problematic hemorrhoids anymore so that is great.

In summary, if I had to do this all over again, I would, but I would have take off work for the week or at least half and I would have like to have that numbing cream from the very beginning. If you have hemorrhoids, this is a good clean and easy procedure if you can put up with terrible pain for 5 days. I have heard the cutting / laser procedure will take a much longer time to recover, so I think the banding was good.

I Hope this helps!! <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Thanks for the laugh.  Day 2 of my 2nd banding for roids 2&3.  1st banding as a month ago and some discomfort but up and going fairly well the next day.  This time, much sorer and living in the tub.  I had actual surgery for roids some 20 years ago and I'd take the banding 100 times over traditional surgery.  At least now after a couple of weeks no roids and my day is not longer calculated good or bad based on if the roids are happy.  Best luck to everyone dealing with this situation.  P.S.  I don't care what docs say, they should prescribed at least a mild pain medication for banding.

I had banding done on Monday last and was under for the procedure. I was given pain meds (Hydrocodone) and believe me they were needed.

Yes the feeling of discomfort was great and the feeling of having to have a bowel movement was there, even thought there was nothing to come out.

My experience is that I saw what I believe to be a band in the bowel 4 days later. I have been able to have nowel movements but it feels as if something is blocking the "exit" and when I do go....man it feels as if the blockage is sore and in the way.

So I see that this will improve...but my question is : How soon and when the roids are gone do BMs become more comfortable.....cannot stand this it is very uncomfortable....  Using fiber etc....warm water etc...

I had 3 internal hem banded on Tues. This is Sunday. I had no problems & the procedure was practically painless. (I was a nervous wreck!) one has already fallen off; not sure about the others. My Dr recommended Mirolax so no problems there. I can't tell you the relief I feel!! After years of trying to live with these things am finally free to enjoy hikes, dancing, & other physical activities that I had been unable to do. Don't be afraid of this procedure. I wish I had had this done years ago!!
