I have been experiencing lower back pain for over two months now. I have used nsai drugs to treat sudden pain but I started worrying when the pain became persistent. I went to a doc and have been signed up for a diskogram testing next week. Is there anybody who could tell me more about diskogram. Thank you in advance!

Hello! I have had diskogram a year ago. It is an examination of the intervertebral disks of the spine. It is a special X-ray examination where the radiologist injects a dye into the suspected disk using X-ray guidance. The test itself is painful, but the patient needs to be awake and aware in order to tell the discographer what kind of pain is generated by the injection. If during the injection you feel pain that's similar to your ongoing pain, the disk is likely the source of this pain. There are few risks associated with the procedure. The needle passes close to the nerve, so there is slight risk of nerve root damage with the test.
