I have heard that keeping a cell phone in my front pocket can fry sperm, is this true?

Cell phones emit radio-frequency electromagnetic waves, and with so many people now using them, there's been a lot of concern over whether they have any damaging effects on the brain or heart.

Now a new study suggests it may affect a man's fertility.

Researchers studied 361 men who were being evaluated for infertility. They found men who talked on cell phones more than four hours a day had lower sperm counts and less motility.

One possible reason could be the heat generated by the phones. "The impact could be at the sperm producing cells," said Dr. Thomas Toth of Mass. General Hospital. "And could be in a way that we don't know...and in ways we don't even really know."

Experts also aren't sure whether having the cell phone in your pocket or next to your head makes a difference. That's why mass general is currently conducting their own study to see how the frequency and type of cell phone use and other environmental factors may affect male fertility. "Male infertility is a very common problem," said Dr. Toht. "So the more we learn about it, the more we can help our patients."

Mass General Hospital expects to start reporting data from its own study over the next several years.

And remember, it's still not clear that cell phone use actually causes infertility.

In the meantime, there are some things men can do to help protect their fertility. Avoid smoking and drug use, limit alcohol intake, and reduce testicular exposure to heat, like in saunas.

All of these factors have been shown to reduce fertility in men.

A published study by a Cleveland Clinic found cell phone radiation does lower a males sperm count, and causes abnormalities in sperm shape and mobility. The study compared semen samples from the same men and subjected one sample to cell phone radiation for one hour to determine if abnormalities are caused by radiation exposure. The results was not disclosed.
Just a reminder that men should avoid putting their cell phones and Blue tooth devices inside their pants pocket when the devices are on. The heat from the radiation may heat the testes and disturb semen production.

Most likely not, but play it safe and keep the phone away from your nuts :-)

Remember, we're talking about cell phone radiation when the unit is transmitting. That's usually when it's held up to your ear.

Recently, power levels for cell phones have been dropped to a quarter of a watt or lower.

The research studies have been on phones that have been constantly transmitting for AN HOUR at a time.

Who holds a transmitting phone against their nuts for an hour at a time?

Sure, be safe, turn it off, and keep it away from your private parts to be sure... but use some common sense, folks!

Actually, cell phones emit radiation when in standby mode as well. Not that it would matter unless you kept the cell phone near your privates for a very long period of time. Wait a minute. What about the id**t that carries his cell phone in his pocket 18 hours a day 7 days a week year after year? Hmmm... could be a problem, no? :?
