After taking Abilify for about 3 months, I am stopping because of the weight gain. My stomach felt distented and bloated and I gained weight rapdly with no change in my lifestyle. It made me feel better mentally but nothing brings on bad feeling like a weight gain and feeling ugly.

I have been on twenty miligrams of Abilify and have gained about 20 pounds.  I hate the weight gain but the overall positive results of Abilify for depression "out weigh" the detrimental side affect.  It also would help if I would get off the couch and start moving around.

I gained over 60 lbs. on Abilify in about 8 months. Don't let the doctors lie to you; they get kick backs for prescribing. Abilify has LESS weight gaining properties than the other drugs, but still makes you gain. Go to Abilify's website and read it for yourself. Their drug guide books also clearly state this. I went from 130 lbs. and a size 2-4 (I had been that size for years) to 196 lbs. and a size 12. Turns out, I didn't even need the Abilify. I've been off of all meds for over 3 years and doing better than ever. The mood swings were actually caused by hormone imbalances they should've checked for prior to prescribing, and the massive weight gain has actually caused complications with my PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) which is the only remaining problem in my life. I did lose a few lbs. after I stopped taking the meds, but I haven't lost the rest of it. I'm happy with myself and my life but I do begrudge the weight gain still. It's been 3 years and I'm still stuck at 186 (size 10 or 11) when my weight had prior to Abilify, never exceeded 140 in my adult life. My career choices require you to be fit, and at the time I gained the weight, I wasn't working so I had no money to replace ALL of my clothes which was also a huge problem. I can honestly say Abilify was one of the worst things that ever happened to me. I wish doctors would use these medications as a last resort rather than handing them out like Halloween candy. Most people can benefit from therapy if they're willing to put the effort in. The worst part is when doctors flat out ignore patients' complains; if this happens to you, find a better doctor.

I've been on ambilify for a little over 8 months and have seen no significant change in weight. I'm constantly gaining and losing the same five pounds, so for me, no, ambilify hasn't caused weight gain.

I was on Zyprexa for three months and gained 30 pounds. Now I'm on Abilify instead. I haven't lost any of the weight and gained an additional 5 pounds over five months. Not great, but much better than when I was on Zyprexa.

when i was 18 i was on abilify for 4 months and I gained 70 lbs, it really messed me up. thankfully, I was taken off of it and a year later with barely any effort from me really, I lost 80 lbs but it still effected me emotionally and physically. its ironic that a medicine meant to treat depression actually caused me more depression for being fat and for how my body looks after I lost the weight. Also, I was diagnosed with mild anxiety but was still prescribed abilify.

I have been on Abilify for a few years now (can't remember how long?  Maybe 2?) and prior to that I was on Risperdal.  Overall, I have gained 100 lbs.  Even with a trainer and watching what I eat, I am still gaining weight.  I tried to get off Abilify last year and I couldn't sleep, so I went back on it.  I feel desperate and scared and wish there was an answer for this problem.  Only take it if you absolutely have to.  My doctor keeps saying that it is "weight neutral", but I don't believe it.

I gained 40 or 50 pounds from it, so yes it does make you gain weight for some reason. My psychiatrist even said that it can put some extra weight in your body. :/

I was, on average, a size 12 - now I'm size 22-24 since I started taking Abilify and considered obese; I weigh, well now I weigh 229 - I went off Abilify about 4 days ago, I was 133, so I've lost 4 pounds in 4 days. Yeah.
I'll miss how abilify made me feel, but the obesity was really cramping my lifestyle.

I have been on Cymbalta for 2 months, and in the last month I gained over 20 lbs and diet never changed. I am bloated. I went from 24" waist to 40" and 115 to 140 in last 2 weeks. I also spent forever going through menopause, and lost all my weight from that. This is enough to make me want to stop right now. I am so depressed, and I am taking this not for depression, but for help with pain anxiety. Can anyone advise? I have been trying to get in touch with my doctors all week and they are booked until Jan. I now have cramping and either constipation or diarrhea on top of it all.
