I started Abilify in October at a size 6....6 months later I'm now a size 12. Went to the doctor and she said it's from the Abilify. Had I known that it causes severe weight gain I would not of taken it! I now quit taking it & hoping the weight comes off.

True all medications, vitamins & supplements have side effects. I'm on many meds for quite a few health issues until the abilify there was no weight gain. I didn't think anything ever could compete with prednisone, but abilify is right there. Dr prescribed it, eventually dosage was increased & the weight gain was in a matter of weeks. Went back to Dr & she asks me am I on steroids! So, I strongly disagree with anyone saying there is no weight gain taking abilify. Dr question speaks for itself!

I took ability for 3 months and gained 20 pounds.i was 130 and now am 150 and of course none of my clothes fit. I did not change my eating habits or exercise routine.When I mentioned this to my Dr. she couldn't believe it. Hi. I’ve been on Abilify for years but just started gaining weight... rapidly. I’ve gained 35 pounds in 9 months. I only eat 1200 calories a day... mostly salads, and exercise but the weight just keeps piling on. I went to a new dr and he informed me that it is from the Abilify. He also said it causes diabetes. We changed my meds to Wellbutrin so hopefully I will start losing weight as it helps with that.

Since weight gain is synonymous with any antidepressant drug, what would be the solution in losing weight on these drugs (abilify for an example)? Since the prescription costs about 400 per month, some of these profits should be used to cure the side effects. Don't you agree?

Yes, I gained 80 lbs and that pissed me off so much that ID rather tolerate symptoms than be fat and I like my heart healthy and strong.
