Does anyone have an opinion on Holep vs Aquablation for a 150 gram prostate. Aquablation has now been done on larger prostates and perhaps less incidence of urinary incontinence and possibly less retrograde ejaculations
Thank you for any input

Hi, guest.

  1. HoLEP (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate):

    • HoLEP is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which can cause urinary symptoms in men.
    • It involves using a laser to remove excess prostate tissue that is obstructing the urethra.
    • HoLEP has been considered effective for treating large prostates, including those over 150 grams.
    • It has a track record of long-term effectiveness in improving urinary symptoms, and it's generally associated with a low risk of sexual side effects.
  2. Aquablation:

    • Aquablation is a newer, minimally invasive procedure that uses a high-velocity waterjet to remove prostate tissue.
    • It is also used to treat BPH and is designed to provide precise and controlled tissue removal.
    • Aquablation has shown promise in clinical trials for treating larger prostates.
    • Some studies have suggested that Aquablation may result in a lower risk of urinary incontinence and retrograde ejaculations compared to other procedures, but individual outcomes can vary.

The choice between HoLEP and Aquablation for a 150-gram prostate should be made in consultation with a urologist who can consider various factors, including the patient's specific medical history, anatomy, and individual preferences. Factors such as the surgeon's experience with each procedure and the availability of the technology may also influence the decision.
