I went to my physician and he told me three options TURP which he was not recommending.  UROLIFT which is a implant and minimal catheter time, but I was told last for 5 years.  REZUM water vapor therapy.  The physician we long on this option, but I read this has a long recovery time and I do not like boiling water concept.   I was disappointed that the physician did not discuss other treatment like Laser.  Is there a location where my options are provided.

Hello.

The three options you mentioned are commonly used for BPH treatment:

  1. Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP): This is a surgical procedure where a portion of the prostate is removed using a resectoscope. It has been a standard treatment for BPH for many years but may have a longer recovery time and potential side effects.

  2. UroLift: This is a minimally invasive procedure where implants are used to lift and hold the enlarged prostate tissue, relieving the obstruction. UroLift is known for its shorter recovery time and minimal catheter use. The duration of symptom relief varies, but it can last up to 5 years.

  3. Rezum water vapor therapy: This is a newer minimally invasive procedure where steam is used to treat the excess prostate tissue. It has shown promising results in reducing symptoms, but recovery time may be longer compared to other options.

It's important to note that treatment options may vary depending on factors such as the size of your prostate, the severity of your symptoms, and your overall health. There are also other treatment options available for BPH, including laser therapies such as laser enucleation (HoLEP) or laser ablation (PVP). These laser treatments aim to remove or vaporize the excess prostate tissue.

To explore more treatment options and gather detailed information, I recommend consulting with a urologist who can assess your condition, discuss the pros and cons of each treatment option, and provide personalized recommendations based on your specific needs and preferences.
