You probably have a cortisol deficiency. Prednisone is a synthetic version of the hormone cortisol. Cortisol acts to stabilize blood sugar. When there is way too much cortisol, blood sugar goes up. Sometimes when there is too little cortisol, blood sugar goes up also.
