I read that on average, a marathon runner loses 2 cm in height from the beginning of the race to the end due to the constant "pounding and jarring" on the bones.

I dont run anything close to marathon race length on any one run, but I was wondering if running weekly mileage as much as a marathon takes off a little of your height?

Anyways, the whole thing is kind of sketchy because if you ran enough marathons youd be a midget 8O

I suppose it's only temporary, the height will return to normal in the recovery. You're also shorter in the evening than in the morning because your backbone gets shorter during the day.

If a runner would lose 2 cm on each marathon, I'd like to see those runners who've runned about a thousand marathons...
